From Sitka

Another request question! Awesome! Keep 'em coming! This one is from Sitka. "Steve and Kat - have you ever been fortunate enough to have a sample of Wilbur's kitty food??? Oh, I have snuck a piece ONCE or TWICE! It is yummy, but I did get in trouble!"

Why, yes, Sitka, we have tried Wilbur's food. We've tasted some of his dry
Felidae. It was quite tasty. Now it's totally safeguarded from us. First, it's behind the baby gate. Then, it's off in a corner and Wilbur has to go through his tunnel to get to it. When we were smaller, we could fit through the tunnel, but not anymore. Wilbur might as well keep his food in Alcatraz. It couldn't be any safer there than here. I mean look at this.

First obstacle - gate:
Second obstacle - tunnel:Holy grail - food:
We've also tried some of his treats. Usually, Mom feeds Wilbur treats in an area that we can't reach, but sometimes, he knocks them on the floor, so we're ready to help with clean up! (We've not been able to get any of those Temptations that you sent him, Tia. He gobbles those up fast!)

We also haven't tried his wet Friskies that he gets in the mornings. Wilbur plans his whole day around that canned food, so he would probably give us major injuries if we tried to eat some of that!

Steve even ate a bite of litter once, but Mom freaked out and told him that he was being disgusting and so it embarrassed him so much that he hasn't tried it again.

Kat

My red fur.

I bet if I asked any of our faithful readers, you would all say that either I’m a grey and white husky or maybe dilute black and white, which is what my breeder called me. I’m going to let you in on a little secret though. I’m actually a dilute black, white, AND red husky. I know what you’re thinking, “How is that possible?” Well it is totally possible, because I’m proof!

Just take a look at this picture. This is my front leg elbow. My parents have thought in the past that I was bleeding, but no, I just have red fur there. I have a little bit on my hind end as well, but not as much.

I think this red fur comes from my husky dad, Titan. He was one handsome dude. I would look just like him if I was red. Our faces have the same markings, I think.

Also, sometimes if the light shines on Kat's fur just right, you can see a reddish tint to her as well, but she just doesn't have patches of it like me. Now you know some Steve Trivia!

Steve

Question from Kelsey Ann

We got our first request question! It’s from Kelsey Ann of The Kapp Pack. She says, “I'd like to know how it is possible for 2 huskies to live with a cat. Whenever anyone asks her if we have a cat her reply is ‘a cat would be dog food in our house’.” What a great question, Kelsey Ann!

Well, depending on who you ask (and probably when you ask) you might get the response that we don't get along. Mom and Dad made the decision to adopt huskies into a home with a cat after lots of careful thinking and reading. They chose to get us as puppies so that we could grow up with Wilbur and also adopted us from a breeder who had two cats, so we had been exposed to cats from the day we were born.

Now, I can't tell you that we don't chase Wilbur sometimes, because we do. But we are pretty good at stopping when Mom or Dad says, "No! Leave it!" Also, Wilbur has his own room. That's where his litter box, food and water are, and there's a big baby gate blocking the door, so Wilbur can get in, but we can't. So Wilbur can go there when he needs to get away from us. At night, Wilbur gets locked out of the bedroom so that nothing can happen to him while Mom and Dad are sleeping and during the day when they are at work, we are separated from Wilbur as well. Mom and Dad don't want to take any chances.

We think that another key to the fact that we get along alright is that Wilbur is a pretty feisty cat. He's only two, so he's still young. He still has all of his claws, so he can defend himself. And he's not one of those cats that gets agitated by changes in his routine, so he was pretty open to us. Sometimes he tries to play with us by doing leaps over us while we are sleeping.

So all in all, we get along okay. Mom and Dad are always keeping an eye on us to make sure we're not fighting, but so far we haven't had any issues. No promises on any other cat but Wilbur though!

Kat

PS. We were going to try to take a picture of the three of us living in harmony, but Wilbur doesn't like us that much. So I'm going to post an old one from Wilbur's birthday. We think that is shows the respect that Steve has for Wilbur since he's not trying to get Wilbur's birthday cake, even though he wants it really badly.

Favorite Books Tag

We were tagged by Sitka and Tia to tell what our Top 5 favorite books are. Since we have five members of our family, we decided to let each one pick a favorite book.

Steve: Dog Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook by James M. Giffin and Liisa D. Carlson. I chose this book because I have a bad habit of getting hurt. Whether it’s eating something that makes me have yucky tummy, or getting mange (cringe), Mom has been able to use this book to pre-diagnose me before we go to the vet, or in some cases, avoid having to go to the vet.

Kat: Siberian Huskies for Dummies. This was the first book about Siberians that Mom and Dad bought about six months before they adopted us. I should say that it was the first of many since Mom went crazy on Amazon and bought a bunch of books, but she says this is her favorite and it’s mine too because it has funny cartoons.

Wilbur: Harry Potter series. I don’t read because cats are above reading, but I like these books because they are really addictive for my mom. So she spends lots of time reading them and I get to sit on her lap while she’s reading.

Mom: I like books by Jodi Picoult. She tells a good story that makes you think about right and wrong and I typically can’t put the book down!

Dad: Hustler Days by R. A. Dyer. I love to play pool and enjoyed this book about legendary pool players.

PS. Our mom wants to know if anybody out there knows how to add more shapes and graphics for Photoshop.

About our Charity

As I think most of you know, we're blogging for Adopt a Husky of Dallas. We chose this charity because it helps huskies in our area. Despite being named Adopt a Husky of Dallas, they actually rescue dogs from all over the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, which is a very large area. AHDI works to raise awareness in the area about the Siberian Husky breed so that families make the right decision on whether a husky is the right pet for them. In addition, AHDI rescues huskies from shelters and bad situations, places them in foster homes, and works to find them permanent homes with responsible owners. When the rescued dogs are in foster care, they often need medical treatment, so the expenses incurred by the rescue can become quite large.

And that's where we come in, blogging to raise money so they can rescue even more huskies. To see some of the dogs that are in foster care, visit this website. There are some really great looking dogs available, don't you think? We hope they all find homes soon.

We want to say thanks again to all of our sponsors who helped us raise money. We are so fortunate to have such a great group of friends!

Kat

Welcome to our Blogathon!

Here we are, the first post of Blogathon 2007! We are awake and bright eyed and bushy tailed! I mean, look at me. Don't I look totally awake?Oh, Kat says not to forget her.We wanted to get Wilbur all bushy tailed for Blogathon too, but Mom said, "Leave It!" when we tried to chase him. Mom spoils everything. Anyway, Wilbur is at least awake. He's resting to take over when we get tired.

So, I bet you're wondering what we're going to do for the next 24 hours. Well, we have lots of fun stuff. We're going to have some contests where you could win a prize if you're good at the contest. Then we're going to have some drawings for prizes. You don't have to keep up with the blog in real time to win a prize in the drawings, but if you want to win a contest, you'll have to keep up with the blog. Also, to be fair to our sponsors, the contests and drawings are only open to sponsors. However, if you want to get in on the fun, you can still sponsor us, even if it's just for a small amount of money. I wouldn't want anydog to miss out on our cool prizes.

We have topics planned to write about during the next 24 hours so you can learn even more about us than you ever thought possible. However, if you have a question or specific topic you'd like to hear us talk about, just leave us a comment. We want to keep our readers and sponsors happy!

So sit back and have fun with us during the Blogathon!

One more day...

Tomorrow is the start of Blogathon. I really hope I have rested enough. I guess if I need a nap, Wilbur can blog for a while because he sleeps constantly. He should have saved up plenty of sleep.

Here's another prize. We have several of these. It's a magnet. It says "Adopt a Husky of Dallas" and has pictures of huskies surrounding a Texas ranger type star badge. They are so cool, I couldn't take my eyes off of them. Thanks to everydog for supporting us for the Blogathon. We have exceeded our goal of $500, so we REALLY appreciate everydoggie's help!

Two Days Remaining

Just two more days until our first Blogathon! We are only $38 from $500 in pledges, and we had originally set $500 as our goal, so we are really excited! Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors!!!

Here's another prize. It's an ornament. We have two to give away. It's shiny, so Mom couldn't get a very good picture of it. It's also ceramic, so you'll have to be gentle with it as well. But you can use it to decorate your Christmas tree next Christmas! It says "Adopt a Husky of Dallas" in small letters and then "Over 500 Saved" in big letters with lots of pictures of dogs that have been saved. When you hang on your Christmas tree, you'll always remember that you helped Steve, Wilbur and me in Blogathon! So good luck to everydoggie, and keep taking lots of naps to prepare for Blogathon!

Walks and a Prize

Since it's been so hot here, my mom and dad have started taking us on a walk in the morning and another walk in the evening. We used to walk almost 4 miles all at one time, but now we are doing 2 of those in the morning and the rest at night. Steve and I love the morning walk because it's so nice and cool outside and we usually see some bunnies and birds. The afternoon walk is really HOT, but Mom and Dad insist that we still need some exercise in the evenings or we will not let them get any sleep. (Whatever.) At least our HOT walks are shorter now. How far does everypuppy else walk everyday?

Also, here's another blogathon prize. It's a cool coaster for you to keep your water dish on so that it doesn't leave rings on your mom's furniture. We have two of these to give away. It's the same logo as one of the T-shirts I have already modeled for you and the coaster is made of tile, so you'll have to treat it gently so it doesn't break. Good luck!Steve

Everybody's Favorite... TOYS!

A very nice volunteer from Adopt a Husky of Dallas gave my mom this box of toys to give away during Blogathon. We didn't model these toys because Steve has taken to sleeping right under where my mom is keeping the toys because he wants them so badly. We can smell the dogs on them, even though they are brand new toys. The family who donated the toys has four dogs, and a foster, Maven. Mom and Dad thought that Maven was adorable and would have been a perfect match for Steve and me, but they resisted and only brought the toys home instead of Maven and the toys.

Good luck winning one of these cool toys during Blogathon! We are only $18 away from $400, so thanks for all of your donations!!

Another T-shirt Prize

Here is the second T-shirt that we have to give away. This one doesn't specifically say "Adopt a Husky of Dallas", so if you're partial to another rescue group, you might still want this awesome shirt. It is about rescue. Here's a close up of the front of the shirt. It says, "Rescue - an action that characterizes the difference between live and die".I tried not to get any fur on the shirt when I was being the showcase boy. (You know, showcase boy like on the Price is Right, but on TV they are human females, not husky males.) Good luck in winning the shirt during Blogathon! Don't forget to sponsor us if you haven't already!

Is Sitka a model?

This mousepad came in the mail this week. Mom won it in the ebay auction from Tails of the Tundra. She said she liked it because it was funny and she thought the dog looked like me. However, when we got it, I decided that I wasn't sure if it looked like me, but I thought it looked like Sitka! What do you think?

Mousepad:
Me: Sitka:(Sitka's picture is small because I had to copy it from her website, not because I don't think she is worthy of a big picture.) Anyway, Sitka has a snow nose like the puppy on the mousepad, so I just think it looks like her. What if it is her? Maybe she is a model? Mom was going to use the mousepad, but maybe I should get Sitka to pawtograph it since she might be famous. Do you think it's her?

Kat

PS. Just so no one is confused, the mousepad is not a Blogathon prize. We'll post more prizes soon.

PPS. This is what the mousepad says. It's so true, as all of us huskies know. Although I personally think that #5 should say "speak husky talk" because my parents try to howl. And for most huskies #6 should say "throw the ball and watch me look at you funny". I like to play ball, but Steve just looks at the ball like, "What? It's a ball. Give me treats."

Siberian Husky
Professional Human Trainer

Will train any human to perform the following basic obedience commands:
1. Fetch me a treat
2. Rub my belly
3. Pick up my poop
4. Wipe my feet
5. Speak baby talk
6. Throw the ball
7. Don't hog the bed
8. Give me a kiss
9. Buy me a toy
10. Fetch me a treat (this one's good!)

Prize Unveiling

Remember the riddle?

This is a prize you will want to win.
It's something you can keep your human in.
Otherwise you might don it during a storm,
Some humans think it will make you feel safe and warm.

Well, if you guessed "t-shirt" to our prize riddle, then you were right! We have two T-shirts to give away. Here's a picture of one. It's my favorite and I don't really want to give it away. Don't you think I kind of look like the husky on the shirt? Here's a close up of the front of the shirt. It's a little blurry, but I'm sure you puppies can see it good enough.
If you're a fan of Texas or huskies, you'll want to add this shirt to your collection. You can tell your humans to wear it everyday. And we will be sure to put a tag on it that says, "Not for doggie use". That way your humans won't make you wear it.

So all you Blogathon sponsors, keep your paws crossed that you win. And if you haven't sponsored us and you want to win, please sponsor us. We just need $12 more to break $300, so grab your human's credit cards and pledge, pledge, pledge! (Actually you won't need their credit card until after Blogathon, so you can pledge away now and find it later.)

Steve

PS. We have more prizes to come which we will be posting in the days leading up to Blogathon.

From Steve

Hi everybody, it's me Steve. I took a break from hogging the new toys to say a few things.

First, thanks to Marley for my Rockin' Guy Blogger award. Awesome, dude. (How rockin' did I sound right there? I think very!)

Second, I wanted to say that you guys gave some really good guesses on the prize riddle. My favorite guess was from Zim of the Army of Four who guessed that the prize was a straight jacket. That was a really clever guess. We will probably be posting the answer this weekend. I'll just say that some of you are right. Hmmm....

Third, thanks to our awesome Blogathon sponsors, we've got pledges of $278 for Adopt a Husky of Dallas. So cool, but we don't want to stop there! In fact, we've gotten word that we'll be getting some more prize donations from an Adopt a Husky member! Mom is going to go pick them up this weekend, so we'll post pictures then. Currently we have 13 sponsors and 12 prizes (plus whatever Mom picks up this weekend) so your odds of winning are REALLY good. If you haven't sponsored us yet, you totally should because you could win a prize, and what is better than prizes? We're going to have some contests during Blogathon but other prizes will be given away by a raffle, so you won't even have to be reading the blog in real time to win! Good luck!

Well, I better get back to toy hogging!
Steve

Christmas in July!

We have the bestest doggie friends! Today, when Mom and Dad got home from work, we discovered a box on the porch. It was addressed to us! We were totally excited. You'll never guess who it was from? That's right, our good friends from Georgia, Sitka and Tia!

Steve and I couldn't wait to rip open the box.Once we got it open, we discovered great stuff inside. Mom helped us unpack the box and she just wouldn't stop talking!

Then we decided to play with our Santa rhinos. Wilbur wanted to see what Tia sent him as well. I think he thinks he has a girlfriend! Of course, she's older than him, but he must have a thing for older women! That's Wilbur, the playboy.

I like the rhinos. Their grunting is so cool. Mom said that it's easier to listen to than the squeaking cuzes. I don't know what she means by that. Steve really likes the Santa rhinos. He was totally hogging them. Mom had to steal them from him to take the tags off! We haven't gotten to eat out treats yet. Steve's had an icky tummy the past couple days, so he's on very limited food intake. Of course, that means that I don't get any good stuff either. If Steve would stop trying to eat everything he finds on our walks, then he might not get icky tummies!

Thank you so much Sitka and Tia!!

Kat (and Steve and Wilbur)

Guess what? We've now acquired some prizes for our Blogathon sponsors! So if you have already sponsored us, you'll have a chance to win! If you'd like a chance to win, you still have time to sponsor us! We're not going to unveil all of the prizes yet, but here is a riddle about one of them.

This is a prize you will want to win.
It's something you can keep your human in.
Otherwise you might don it during a storm,
Some humans think it will make you feel safe and warm.

Good luck and see if you can guess what it is!

Our Slogans

Turbo, Sasha, and Holly posted about their personal slogans as generated by the Slogan and Movie Quote Generator. We decided to go see what our slogans would be, so here they are!

Steve:

My slogan is "And All Because The Lady Love Steve". This is so appropriate because all the ladies do love me.

My movie quote is “Show me the Steve!” I think that is a good quote for me because it just sounds tough and that’s me!

Kat:

My slogan is "The Right Kat at the Right Time". I agree! First off, I’m the only Kat I know, so I must be the right one and it’s always the right time to pet me!

My movie quote is “We'll always have Kat.” All I have to say about that is I certainly hope so!

Wilbur:

My slogan is "Stop! This Wilbur is not Ready Yet!" I think that pertains to that people need to STOP petting me except when I want it. If I want you to touch me, I will come up to you and allow you to touch me. Otherwise, I’m not ready yet and I will bite you.

My movie quote is “Everybody! Everybody wants a piece of Wilbur!” So true. Everybody wants me. I am the world’s coolest cat.

PS. Thanks to everyone who has sponsored us in the Blogathon! We've got pledges totalling almost $250 now! We're really excited because we were hoping to raise $500 for Adopt a Husky of Dallas and now we're on a good start! If you still would like to sponsor us, click on the link at the top-right of the blog.

PPS. We forgot to mention another husky who is blogging for an animal shelter in Denver during Blogathon. His name is Tucker and we're sure his blog will be very entertaining during the Blogathon. Go check it out!

Big Announcement

Here ye, here ye!
We have a big announcement to make! Our mom has started trying to get involved in Adopt a Husky of Dallas. She's helping plan a big husky picnic for this fall for all huskies in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Anyway, she got an email this week with announcements from the rescue and included in the newsletter was this fact: in June, Adopt a Husky of Dallas had over $4000 in expenses! Now, we're sure that a lot of you who came from rescues know how expensive it is to operate a rescue, but we had no idea!

Now, we were fortunate enough to be adopted from our canine mom into a family who loves us tons and tons, but some huskies aren't that lucky as some of our blogger friends know. So we asked ourselves, "How can we help these huskies in Texas?" We don't have any money since our mom doesn't pay us for working around the house doing things like spreading fur, decorating with toys, and eating peanut butter. So we decided to take a page from Meeshka's book and join up with the Blogathon! We convinced our mom to help us, so now we need your help! If you have any money left after sponsoring Meeshka (and don't forget to sponsor her), please sponsor us too. You can sponsor us at this link.

We will do our best to be entertaining for the 24 hours of Blogathon. We don't have super cool prizes like Meeshka has, but we are brainstorming! It's our first Blogathon and we are super excited!!

Steve and Kat

PS. Even Wilbur is going to help blog during the Blogathon! What a nice kitty!

We're resting up for Blogathon!
