Our first grooming experience

Steve already told you that Dad went to Atlanta last weekend. We had a pretty exciting weekend without him. We had to get up really early on Friday so Mom could take Dad to the airport. For some reason, we didn’t get to ride along, but that was okay because we got to enjoy our Kongs in the crate and Mom was home before 6:30 AM, the time she usually leaves for work!

Mom took the day off so we thought we were in for a great day of relaxation and squirrel chasing. However, at 7:45 AM, Mom put our leashes on and we had to get into the 4Runner for a car ride. Guess where we went? The groomer. Mom said that brushing us every day was just not cutting it, so she called in the professionals.

We had never been to a groomer before. When we got there, the groomers let us run around and explore everything. We were the first dogs at the shop.

The groomers said that it would take 4 hours to groom us, so Mom decided not to wait around. I don’t know what she did while she was home alone, but before we knew it, she was back at the groomer to pick us up. She kept going on and on about how pretty we were. We did not pose for a good picture at the groomer.

Mom had to laugh because there was husky fluff all over the grooming shop and the groomers said that they had actually already tried to clean it up! The blower really helps us shed a lot of fur.

Once we got home, we were pretty tired, so Mom got some pictures of us. 

Steve used to have zebra stripes on his sides, but now all that old fur is gone and he looks much better.

I got a really pretty purple Hawaiian bandanna and I think I look pretty gorgeous wearing it. Do you agree Thunder?

Mom says we’ll have to go back to the groomer again sometime. I suppose that would be okay as long as the visits are few and far between. After all, after Mom picked us up, we went to Paddywack and picked up our new dog food. Dog food is always a good thing.

Wilbur at the airport

Meow. I brought my iPhone with me to the airport so I could keep everypup and kitty up-to-date with my travels. The airport shuttle driver did not appreciate my litter box for some reason, but everything arrived safely at Sea-Tac airport. I’ve been walking around looking for the perfect airplane to board. I think I’ve found the right one. As you can see in this picture, I’m meowing with joy that such a perfect airplane exists.

Has anypup or kitty figured out where I’m going yet? I’ll give you a clue. I am definitely NOT going to live with my arch-nemesis, Khyra.  And as for all the other kitties and furry beasts who want to go on my trip, I'm really sorry, but (1) No furry beasts allowed, I'm trying to escape them and (2) this particular trip is a covert operation, but if it is successful, I will send instructions for other kitties to follow.

Stowaway for Atlanta

Wilbur just left in the airport shuttle which got me thinking. Last weekend, Dad went to Atlanta for his cousin’s wedding. My good friends Sitka and Cornelia Marie live in Georgia, so I decided I wanted to go too. Sitka and Cornelia Marie go to Sonic on Fridays and so I figured that I would hide in Dad’s suitcase and then Sitka and Cornelia Marie could come pick me up at the airport. Then we could all go to Sonic on Friday night and then play all weekend long and they could take me back to the airport to meet Dad on Sunday. I let Sitka know I was coming and she said that she was very excited to drive her Jeep to the airport to get me (Cornelia Marie is too little to drive).

So Thursday night, Dad got his suitcase out. I jumped on the bed to fold myself into his suitcase.

The suitcase was quite a bit smaller than I thought. I was really disappointed. It was really sad to have to tell Sitka that I couldn’t join her and her family for Sonic and play time.

I’m going to have to get Dad a bigger suitcase for next time.

Wilbur's Departure

Hello blog readers. Wilbur here. As many of you know, I do not appreciate the addition of the furry beasts into my household. They’ve been here almost two years, but before they arrived, I lived almost two years of complete bliss as an only pet. It was really wonderful. I was left alone to bite my mom and run around the house without interference. But alas, I don’t think I’m going to talk the humans into getting rid of the furry beasts so I have decided to take matters into my own paws. I’m leaving. 

As you can see, I’ve packed up all of my toys into these two suitcases. I also threw in all of my canned food, my automatic feeder, my water fountain, my dry food, and my treats. I’ll have to get my litter box too, but it wouldn’t fit in the suitcase.

I’ve just called the airport shuttle, so they will be here soon to take me to the airport where I can start my journey to my new home.

Game #1

Who knew Mom's sleepy pants would get such a positive reaction from all of our fans!  (The sleepy pants are from Old Navy, but are old, so your moms probably can't find them.)  Maybe Mom has some fans herself.  All of Mom's fans should be very happy we cut her head off (in the picture, not real life).  She looks like Cousin It.

We received over $1200 in pledges for Save Our Siberians Siberspace Rescue Fund. We first want to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored us! We have the best friends any pups and kitty could ask for. We also want to just talk a bit more about the cool stuff SOS-SRF does.

SOS-SRF raises money to help Siberian Husky rescues. The rescues can apply for funding from SOS-SRF for non-routine expenses incurred for rescue dogs. Up and At 'Em

Hey pupper duppers and kitty cats! Welcome to the big day! We’re super excited for the start of Blogathon. It’s 6:00 AM in Washington and we are ready to go. (Mom’s not sure, but she can just nap on the couch while we hog the computer.) We’ve got lots of stuff to tell you and lots of stuff to give away, so without further ado, let’s BLOG!

Yet Another Super Cool Prize

Our final "high-value" prize item is also a very unique, special item.  This time the winner will have a choice of what they receive.  The winner can choose either a custom painted stone (roughly 5x7-inches)or a memorial box (also approximately 5x7-inches).These items are hand-made by our friend Sophie's mom.  If you're the lucky winner, we'll put you in contact with Sophie's mom and you can let her know which item you'd like and send her some pictures to use for the painting.  We featured pictures with kitties, but go check out the website, Small Meadows Friends, for more examples of the work Sophie's mom does.  It's really cool.

Another big prize announcement

Our second "high-value" prize for Blogathon is a scarf.  You might be thinking, "But a scarf isn't that exciting."  However, if the scarf is made out of your own fluff, then it's VERY exciting!  That's right, a special SOS-SRF volunteer has offered to take up to 6 ounces of some pup's fur and spin it into yarn and then knit a scarf with it.  You can see some pictures on how this works on the SOS-SRF website.  If you're the lucky winner, you'll receive instructions on how to gather up your fluff and send it in to get it made into a scarf.

Now, we don't have a Steve and Kat fluff scarf, so we turned to our friends in Florida, the River Hill Pack, for some advice.  Their mom has a sweater made of husky fluff.  Here's what they had to say about the sweater:

It is VERY lightweight, definitely under a pound, but thick.  It's incredibly soft to the touch (imagine husky undercoat) and the closest I can come to for texture is furry cashmere, but it can't really be compared to anything else, it's very unique and very luxurious.

They also said that the sweater is very warm, but all us huskies could have predicted that!

Healthy Chews

Here's another Blogathon prize.  A bag of rawhide chews.  I really want to eat them, but Mom has declared them to be OFF LIMITS!

Today I was a contestant in the City Dog magazine cover dog contest.  I had some good fun, but I'm not going to reveal the results just yet.  I want to keep you guessing, as the results will be revealed on Saturday during Blogathon.  I will tell you that the best part was the ice cream bar that Mom shared with me.  She ate the chocolate off the outside and I ate the vanilla ice cream on the inside.  We really worked hard on that team effort!  Another cool thing about the cover dog contest is that $1300 was raised for a local animal sanctuary.  Since the entries cost $10 per pup, that means that I had a lot of competition.

Kat and I have had a big weekend.  Dad went to Atlanta for his cousin's wedding, so I had to be the man of the house and Kat and I both had to keep Mom from getting bored.  We helped her clean the house, sew some curtains, and we went to the groomer.  We also got some new dog food.  We'll share pics of all of these activities on Saturday during Blogathon.  (We've got to have 49 posts, so we have to start saving material sometime.)

Kitty Magnets

This is a horrible picture, blame my mom, but this Blogathon prize is a set of magnets with kitties on them.  Mom says the flash kept reflecting.  She's full of excuses.

Anyway, I wanted to comment on a comment left by Ari and his mom.  They say:

"What a great day!  It sounds like a lot of fun, though the pictures of Kat make us laugh because she always looks more like an evil genius about to take over the world for insidious intent.  It's a good thing we know she's really a sweetheart inside."

Frankly, this comment insults me.  If anyone in this family is an evil genius planning to take over the world for insidious intent, it is ME!  Obviously, I'm doing an excellent job of hiding my true purpose in life.  But the girl furry beast is totally not capable of anything evil.  She's a kissy, gooey mess of a cuddle husky.  She could never be as skilled as I am.

Perhaps someday I will blog about my world takeover plans.  I could probably get some of the feline Cat Pack members to help me out.

Cute little puppy

Mill Creek Festival

As mentioned before, we went to the Mill Creek Festival on Sunday. We don't live very far from where it was held, so we rode bikes over there. Mom and Dad got some pizza for lunch and we didn't get any pizza. Boo! Here's a picture of me waiting for Dad to finish his Diet Coke.Here's Kat. She's waiting too. I've noticed that we spend a lot of time waiting on our humans.

After Mom and Dad finished their pizza, we went over to the Pet Plaza. Mom wanted to talk to a few dog food companies since she's trying to figure out what dog food to switch us over to next since Canidae is changing their formula and outsourcing their production. We got samples of some food, but so far, Mom hasn't let us eat any.

The Dock Dogs were performing at the Pet Plaza. It was really cool. Mom caught one dog on video.

I took a moment to look really handsome.
Since Mom said we couldn't go get in the big Dock Dogs pool, we went over to this booth where they had a "doggie spa" set up. We took full advantage of it. It was sponsored by the store where we buy our dog food and a groomer. I got the groomer to share some of her lunch with me, so she's cool. Mom scheduled an appointment for us to get groomed on Friday.
All in all, it was a fun afternoon.

I love this bunny

We went to a festival on Sunday. It was pretty exciting and we have pictures and some videos, but Mom is being lazy about getting them out of the camera. She's complaining about having red skin and how it hurts and not to touch her arms and blah, blah, blah. What a complainer. Maybe if she had some pretty fur she wouldn't have red skin.

So until we get those pictures out, here is another blogathon prize. It's a bunny. I really like it. In fact, I have tried to steal it from the prize box. I'm an award winning cat

Huffle gave me an award called the Cool Cat award.  I'm sure every one who knows me will agree that I truly am a cool cat.  I also feel the need to comment on Huffle's amazing art talent.  She's very good at designing cool pictures for blogs.  Anyway, the way the Cool Cat works is that you win and then you nominate five other cool cats to win.  Huffle says dogs can win too, but you know my feelings about furry beasts.  I'm only going to nominate real felines.  So here's who I am nominating:

1. Tia - She used to live the good life, but now she has two furry beasts.  She needs all the cheering up she can get, so I hope this award helps.

2. Shelby - It must be hard living with Flash and Peanut.  They seem to get into a lot of trouble though, so maybe it's entertaining.

3. Bones and Loki - I am pretty sure that part of all the trouble Marley and Ziggy get into is because Bones and Loki carefully craft situations so the furry beasts will walk into a room and get in trouble.  I have much to learn from these cool cats.

4. Mama, MrSippi, and Carolina - I think it's pretty cool how these cats not only have awesome names, but one has the name of "Mama" which obviously means she's the boss of everything.

5. Witty Kitty - Witty Kitty is another feline with a great name.  He also gets to go on walks with his furry beasts.  So he's not only cool, he's brave.

I caught a squirrel

Happy Sunday!  I caught a squirrel the other day.  It's got a nice bushy tail and Mom lets me bring it in the house.  She even lets me bring it to bed.  It used to squeak, but I chomped down on it and it stopped.  Mom says it has replaceable squeakers so I never know when it might start squeaking again.  I'm sure I'll be able to make it stop again too.  Here's a picture of me sleeping with my squirrel in the office.  I named him Nutsy.

Here's another blogathon prize.  It's a rose and when you squeeze it, it says "I love you".  Now, I'm pretty experienced with the ladies and I know that ladies love flowers.  They also love it when men say "I love you" to them.  So I'm pretty sure that if you do something bad like chew up your mom's favorite shoes, all you have to do is give her this rose and squeeze it so it tells her that you love her.  You won't get in trouble at all.

Yellow Ducky & Wilbur!

Hello furry beasts and my lovely Tia and Huffle.  I have the latest Blogathon prize installment today.  It's a yellow ducky.  Not a rubber ducky as Ernie from Sesame Street sings about.  This yellow ducky is a stuffy that you furry beasts are so fond of.

Anyway, the other day, I had my fill of my furry beasts, so while Mom was taking pictures of all the blogathon prizes, I decided to try to pack myself away in the box of prizes.  

Huffle has offered me safe haven in Australia, so I thought maybe I could travel there to live in the land down under.  Huffle doesn't have any furry beasts, so it sounds perfect.  I just have to convince my mom to offer me up as the grand prize.

Giggly Blue Fire Hydrant

So yesterday, I was being very pouty and depressed.  Mom told me that she really felt sorry for me and that I live a rough life.  She told me it's very difficult to go through life getting a treat stuffed Kong every morning, having to eat premium dog food, being forced to sleep on a king sized bed every night and having to run around in a big backyard.  She is so right.  It is a very tough life, but some dog's got to do it.

That's why I like to do Blogathon.  Through SOS-SRF, we can raise money to pay for rescued dogs' medical care so they can find furever homes and have a better life than what I have.

Super Cool Leash!

Yesterday there was a box on our porch. It was from our Texas grandma. Mom brought it inside and I got really excited. But she told me it wasn't for me. Then she said, "Oh poor, poor Steve. You just expect to get Snap Biscuits when your Texas grandma sends a package." Dad opened the box and said, "It's pictures. Not for you Stevie boy." I just knew they were wrong. My Texas grandma loves me too much to not send any Snap Biscuits. And you know what? I was right and Dad and Mom were wrong! Under all those pictures, guess what? A bag of Snap Biscuits! WOO!! I was so excited and I started jumping around in circles. There were even some Feline Greenies for Wilbur. Grandmas are the best!!

Kat says that she is the kissy dog, so the phrase on the leash is much more appropriate for her. I guess it really doesn't matter since neither of us will be winning this leash. For all you cats out there, we have this cool laser beam mouse toy. I don't have this particular toy, but I do have a laser pointer. Mom and Dad use it to beam this annoying red dot all over the floor and walls and I try my hardest to defeat the red dot, but it is very quick. New Olympic Sport

Mom has been watching the US Olympic Trials. That's where all the American athletes try to get on the US Olympic team. Lately Mom has been watching swimming and that gave me an idea. Humans compete in synchronized swimming, but about synchronized sleeping? It's even more difficult because you're asleep and don't know exactly what your body is doing or if you've got a paw out of sync with your partner. You really have to trust your instincts in synchronized sleeping.

Steve and I have formed a team and are practicing. I think it's too late to get synchronized sleeping into the Beijing Olympics, but we are practicing for the next Olympics. I think this should be in the winter Olympics so there will be snow, so we've got two years to get the Olympic committee on board!

Blogathon - 21 Days and Counting

Hi everypup (and Tia and Huffle).  Today marks three weeks until Blogathon.  Blogathon is going to work a little differently this year.  We will still be blogging for 24 hours straight, posting a new entry every 30 minutes.  However, instead of making your pledges on the Blogathon website, we ask that you email your pledge to us at stevekatwilbur AT gmail DOT com.  Of course, please do not send any money to us.  All money should be paid directly to Save Our Siberians Siberspace Rescue Fund.  If you prefer to keep your donation private, you do not have to email us.  We just ask for the email if you would like to participate in the games and prize drawings.

We can't wait for all of you to stay up late with us on July 26!

So to summarize:

Email pledge information to us at stevekatwilbur AT gmail DOT com.  Include your name and donation amount.  If you win a prize, we'll ask for you address later, but you can include it with your pledge info if you feel comfortable doing so.

To fulfill your pledge, either pay by Paypal by clicking on the Paypal button on the SOS-SRF home page or mail them a check at the address on their contact page.  You may send your donation before Blogathon, if you prefer, or wait until after Blogathon to make sure we stay awake all 24 hours.  You might want to make sure we earn that donation for SOS-SRF!

We have tons of prizes to give away.  We'll be featuring the prizes in the days leading up to Blogathon so you'll definitely want to make sure you get a chance to win.  Last year we only had prizes for dogs and people, but this year we have prizes for cats too!  Remember we also have the coupons from Fur The Animals.  $5 off for donations of $35-$50 or $10 off for donations of $50+.

We got mail!

Last week, Mom came home and found a package on the porch.  Of course, it wasn't for her, it was for us!  So she took it outside and showed Kat and me.  I took a close look at the package.  It came from Texas.  I had a hunch who it was from.

So Mom took the package inside to cut it open.  When she got it open, she took out the card.  I was right!  The package was from the great pups Tucker, Dot, Sam, Bear, and Millie!  They wrote us a really nice card.

Mom videoed while she unpacked the box.  We got all sorts of great stuff as you can see.  (Mom is kind of retarded.  She said that we got a sheep, but it was really a cow.)

My favorite presents are the stuffies.  I really like the beaver.  I named him Bernie Beaver.  He really looks up to me, so I make sure to take him with me when I go places like outside or to the bedroom to sleep, or just to hang out in the kitchen while Mom is cooking.  I like the stuffed cow too, but not as much as Bernie.  I just like to keep the cow close by so Kat can't play with it.

Thanks so much everypup for our presents!  Kat loves everything too and Wilbur really likes those treats you sent.  We've also found his little dog toy in random places, so I know he's playing with it while we're in our crate during the day.

Another Battle

Meow. I was surfing through Mom's email when I found this picture sent from my arch nemesis, Khyra. Obviously Khyra thinks this is a fun and humane way of treating cats. I'm here today to say that it is most definitely NOT appropriate.

Then I found this picture in another email from Meeshka. I think this shows the fate Khyra could face if she keeps up such outrageous cat abuse.

I really hope Huffle doesn't let Khyra join the Cat Pack. She does not deserve this honor.
