Reference Book?

Steve is sick today. Dad was up all night with him. He had to go outside like every 30 minutes to do business. I was sleeping through the whole thing, but from what I hear, it was quite yucky. So at 1 AM this morning, Mom decided that she and Dad need to get a reference book so they can look up symptoms and find out if there is something they can do to make us feel better and when our symptoms are bad enough to go to the vet and stuff like that. So does anypuppy have a recommendation?

Thanks,
Kat

PS. Last I checked on Steve, he was doing better. He didn't get very much breakfast, but he was feeling more like wrestling. I hope he gets completely better because today is dog park day and I don't want to miss it!

Hey Kat,
Does Steve have "sick poops"? I had this problem the other week and our vet told my parents to give me ground beef and cottage cheese. Dad put the recipe below. Hope he feels better.
Later,
Althea

Boil the ground beef and separate out the fat. Let the beef cool. Mix one part ground beef with two parts cottage cheese (small curd). Give about 1 cup morning and night for 3 to 4 days then start reintroducing normal food a little at a time.

My mom does what Althea said to do...except she uses a little bit of plain yogurt. Whatever you have on hand I guess!

Lots of love,
Rosco

Merck has an online vet manual at www.merckvetmanual.com, which is comprehensive medical info. For general dog health a good book is "The Doctors Book of Home Remidies for Dogs and Cats". Or, "Dr. Pitcairn's New Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats." And also "Whole Health for Happy Dogs". You can find all of them on www.half.com, for pretty cheap.

That Merck manual is really helpful. Sorry to hear Steve is sick - please keep us posted on how he's doing, OK? And don't hesitate to call your vet!!!

Hmmmm, I don't know about books. Fasting for 24 hours is the only thing that helps me. If it doesn't get better after 1 day of fasting or the diet Althea recommended, call the vet. Poor puppy!

Hey, check out the post on my blog about the peanut butter recall!

Pumpkin is pretty magic for making the poops better (whichever way the poop is going wrong). And it tastes good, too. Fresh or canned, but not pumpkin pie filling!
