Santa hates me

I don't know what I did wrong.  I thought I was good all year.  I was nice when we had Ulee (Kat was mean), I didn't chew anything up, I didn't dig (Kat did), I didn't chase Wilbur as much as Kat chased him, I did everything a good husky should do, but Santa still hates me.

Santa brought Kat a new ball.  It looked really fun, but she didn't let me play with it.
When it was my turn to open my present, I just knew it would be something good.  Dad couldn't open it fast enough.
Then I saw what it was.  A Gentle Leader.  If Santa thinks giving dogs Gentle Leaders is funny, he is really mistaken.
Even though I got lots of treats from my grandparents and Mom and Dad, I couldn't shake the fact that Santa hates me.  It almost ruined my Christmas.
Luckily Mom gave us these snowman cakes for Christmas dinner.  That made me feel better.
I hope Santa doesn't hate you pups.

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas from Steve, Kat, and Wilbur!
PS. For your Christmas enjoyment, we are giving you... Christmas picture bloopers!
How's this?  What?  KAT!!  We could have been done if you would look at the camera!!
Wilbur, stop laughing at my antlers.
Mom, get your arms out of the picture.
Give us those treats.
Are we done yet?
Do I have any boogers?
Why is my antler broken?
This is as good as it's going to get, Mom.

Even more presents and a Dad delivered!

On Friday, we got a package from Khyra!  We were so excited.  Mom says we're getting spoiled with all the presents our friends are sending us.

Khyra sent us some treats and a bumper sticker that says "The perfect child is a Siberian Husky".  Mom really likes the sticker and she hung it on the refrigerator.
This movie is really goofy.  Mom didn't open the treat container before videoing, so she was having a hard time opening it one handed.
Then another great thing happened on Friday.  American Airlines sent us a special delivery... DAD!!  We were really excited.  Mom took us to the airport with her to get Dad and as soon as he got in the car, Steve and I showered him with kisses.  We were so happy to see him.  In the middle of the night Friday night, I even went over on the bed and laid down on top of Dad and licked his face.  I missed him so much, so I am glad that he's here for Christmas.

More Presents!

We got another package the other day from MayaMarie and Missy.  It was so great.  I could smell the goodness as soon as I saw the box.
They sent us some three cheese biscuits that their mom made.

The treats were delicious!!

They were even nice enough to send Wilbur a present.
Wilbur loved his present too!

Thanks MayaMarie and Missy!!

Our new vet

I went to the vet today to be tested for giardia.  Mom took me to a vet that was recommended to her by one of her new coworkers.  Get this.  Her coworker's name is Steve and he has a husky.  My name is Steve and I am a husky.  That is really weird, right?  Anyway, Mom's coworker Steve takes his husky to a vet near our house, so Mom decided to try it out.  She looked at the website and the head vet went to vet school at the University of Missouri.  Since Mom grew up in Missouri, she figured that he was probably a good vet.  But today, when we got to the vet, guess where the vet I saw went to vet school.  Oklahoma State University!  That's where Mom went to college too, so at that point, she knew we were at a great place.  Mom really liked the vet that we talked to and he used to have an Alaskan Malamute, so he was even familiar with northern breeds.

Anyway, I was nice enough to leave the vet with some poop, so they are going to send it to the lab to be tested and we'll find out if I have giardia in a couple days.  The vet said it's very common in this area because there is typically a lot of standing water.

Steve

PS. We got a great present from a special friend in Louisiana, but we're having issues with video uploading tonight, so we will post about that as soon as the video is working.  But we want to say THANK WOO!!

Did Wilbur do it?

In response to my post a couple days ago about being sick, my good friend Khyra asked, "P.S. - Are you sure the evil khritter isn't poisoning you somehow? We know how he attakhked your poor innocent hu-mom in her sleep -I'm just wooin'"  (I hope you can all speak Khyra-ese.)

Khyra was referring to Wilbur when she asked about the "evil khritter".  At first I thought, "Oh Khyra, always suspicious of cats.  Wilbur is on the good side."  However, today I am not so sure.  Let me tell you about the new developments.

When I was at the ER vet, they took the poop Mom brought in and sent it off to the lab to get tested.  Today, Mom got a call telling her that I have giardia.  What?  I have a disease?  Now I have to take medicine for my giardia for the next five days and Steve has to go to the vet tomorrow to get tested.

Mom says Steve and I were both vaccinated for giardia, so I think there can only be one explanation.  Wilbur must have broken into the vet's office the day we got our vaccinations and replaced the vaccine with a fake vaccine.  Then, he planted the giardia critters into our water and now I am infected and Steve might be too.  That's the only logical explanation!

I am now keeping a close watch on Wilbur's every move in case he tries to infect me again with something else!  And to make matters worse, Mom says we can't go to the dog park again until we are cured because she doesn't want to risk infecting some other person's dog.  Yet another way Wilbur is taking the fun out of our lives!

Mail for Us!

Hi pups.  I am feeling better today.  I woke up in a much perkier mood.  Mom is really relieved.

A great thing happened today!  When Mom came home from work, she had a box in her arms.  Steve and I couldn't decide what we were more excited about: Mom's return or the box and the wonderful aromas coming from it.  We first chose Mom because we needed to go outside and do some business, but as soon as that was over, we rushed back inside to see what was in that box!

The box was from our friends in Oregon: Bailey, Bear, Gillette, Kona, Maddie, Nasika, River, Tova, Zak, and Zoom!  We were really curious about the box.
When we opened it, we found a card and a tin that smelled really wonderful.  It was very cute with a snowman.
Inside the tin was fantastic cookies!!  Mom cheated on our chicken and rice diet and let us each have one cookie.  She says we can have lots more once we let our tummies get better.  Steve and I just can't wait!  Even Wilbur thought the cookies smelled good but I told him that he couldn't have any.
Thank you very much for the yummy goodness!!

Poor Me

Mom took me to the vet at about 1:00 AM today.  I threw up six times from 8 PM to midnight, then a little after midnight, I went #2 and Mom saw blood and what she thought looked like blood clots.  So needless to say, she freaked out!  She loaded Steve and me up in the car and away we went to the ER vet.

Steve had to stay in the car while we were at the vet.  I went inside with Mom and they took my weight (41.4 pounds) and took my temperature (yuck) and felt me all over.  Mom talked to the very nice vet lady and told her how Steve and I had both had the runs since we moved, but this was the first blood she had seen and also the vomiting was new.

The vet gave Mom some medicine to give to both Steve and me so we don't get an infection.  Then, since I was dehydrated, they put fluids under my skin.  I had a big bulge when I left the vet on my right shoulder, but it's gone now.  I also got a shot of something to make my stomach calm down.

The vet people loved me and told Mom that I sat in their lap while they were working on me.  I still feel pretty icky today.  Mom just now let us have some water since I wasn't supposed to drink anything for 12 hours and Steve is on the same plan.  Now we are supposed to eat boiled rice and chicken for a few days and then gradually go back to our Canidae.  Steve is really excited about getting to eat chicken.  Mom isn't supposed to give us any food until late tonight because the vet wants her to rest our tummies.

The vet said Mom saw blood in my #2 because my system was irritated from all the yucky poops I had been producing.  So now Mom is supposed to keep an eye on me and hopefully everything will get better in no time.  Mom just wants me to start acting like my happy self again because right now, all I do is try to sit on her lap.  That's what sick girls want to do-- be with their mommies.
Well, enough typing, I need to go find my mom's lap.
Kat

PS. Sorry if this was a gross entry, but I wanted to tell everypup about my excitement.

I love Christmas!

Today the FedEx truck came to our house and gave us a BIG box.  It was from our Texas grandparents!  Mom wasn't sure if we should open it now or wait until Christmas, so she just put it on the floor next to the door.  I knew that my Texas grandma would want me to have anything that was in the box and I was also sure I smelled something delicious in there.

So I tried to be cool until Mom and Kat went into the laundry room to fold stuff.  Then I decided that it was my opportunity.  When Mom wasn't watching, I chewed open the Christmas box!  Guess what I saw in there?
To the untrained eye, you might not be able to tell what that is, but I know that it's a bag of Canidae Snap Biscuits!  I love those!!  Notice I concentrated my box chewing right at the spot the biscuits were located.  I didn't want to waste any time.

Unfortunately, at that point, Mom came out into the living room and said, "Steve!  What are you doing?"  Isn't it obvious, Mom?
So Mom ruined all the fun and took the treats out of the box.  I wasn't sure if she got them all, so I had to check.

Mom says I can have my giant bag of biscuits on Christmas.  I hope she means I can eat the whole bag just on Christmas and that I don't have to share with Kat!

Bedroom Steve

Since Dad is gone, I'm the man of the house.  (No matter what Wilbur says.)  I am really taking my new job seriously.  I don't want Dad's side of the bed to be unused, so I have been keeping it warm.

Here I am curling up against the pillows so they don't miss Dad.
Another time I decided to sleep on my back, just like Dad.
Finally I decided to sleep like a person, with my head on the pillow and my front leg over my mom's "cuddle pillow".
Mom says I'm doing a good job keeping her warm at night, so I hope Dad is proud of me.
Steve

PS. Dad got a job offer today, so he will be moving up here soon!!  We don't know for sure when, but probably after Christmas.  He'll be here for Christmas too, so we don't have much more time without him!

Our new robot

Kat's been being really gross and going potty in the house.  She says that if Mom can go potty in the house, she should be able to as well.  Mom disagrees.  So Mom needed some help cleaning up after Kat and bought a Spot Bot.  She says it works pretty well and she can start it and do other things.  I say that it's really noisy.  Kat hasn't gone potty in the house since the Spot Bot showed up.  I think she realized that if she stopped being bad, then we wouldn't have to listen to the Spot Bot.

Mom told Dad that she should put her engineering skills to use and design a new and improved Spot Bot.  She wants one that drives around behind Kat and if Kat starts to squat, it would detect that she was going to be bad and say "NO!"  Dad drew up a preliminary design.
Mom says this would make millions.

New Dog Park

Hey everypuppy!  We have some new videos of us at a dog park in Seattle.  It was a really cool dog park.

We got to swim in Lake Washington.  There was algae in the lake, so we got really green.  It doesn't show up very well on these videos.

Then I found a good spot for digging.

Guess who we saw at the dog park?  Royal and the rest of his pack!  It was kind of embarrassing though.  We were getting ready to leave and Steve and I were so green and dirty that Mom and Dad decided to wash us off.  So we were by the water hose near the gate.  So when Royal came in, I was in the shower!  Eeeeekkkkk!  A handsome boy saw me in my most vulnerable position.  (Other than pottying).  I was so mortified.  Royal was totally fluffy and handsome and there I was, wet and looking like a drowned cat.  I guess I was an almost drowned Kat!!  (Ha, ha!)  I hope I can see him again when I'm looking more beautiful.

We've got Stuff!

Sorry we haven't updated you in a few days. Our stuff arrived on Friday and we have been really busy making sure Mom and Dad put everything in a good spot. We also had to run around in packing paper for a while too.

Here's what our house looked like Friday night. Total disaster!!It was so bad, I had to go hide under the table. Then the greatest thing happened yesterday. We got tons of snow! So while Mom and Dad were working, Steve and I enjoyed some time on the patio. Dad made me a snowball and I brought it inside. Mom didn't appreciate that very much.
Now things are pretty much unpacked so we have been able to relax more. It seems more like home now that all our fur-covered stuff is here.

We Made It!

Finally, the part of our story where we actually made it to our new home. Here's a picture of us in front of the townhome with Mom.This video shows us exploring the house the first time.

We don't have a backyard anymore, but we do have a balcony. Steve likes to watch everyone walk along the sidewalk from his balcony perch.
You wouldn't believe how many dogs live here! It drives us crazy because we see dogs walk past the front of our house all the time and then we want to go outside like every ten minutes. Since we now have to go out on a leash, Mom and Dad don't like it very much. We still don't have any furniture, so Dad says once we do have some, we won't be able to see out the front window as well. We will see if he's right. Our furniture arrives tomorrow.Since we don't have any furniture, we only have one dog bed because that's all Mom and Dad could fit in the car. So in this picture, Steve is showing how we improvise.
I have been having fun playing with my yellow ball. It's great because there isn't any furniture to get in the way!

Finally, Wilbur doesn't have furniture to jump onto to get away from us. So he's found a new perch. That's all for now!

If this car ride takes any longer, I might go puppy crazy!

By the end of the car ride to Washington, Kat and I were about to go crazy. It wasn't just that we were riding in the car, but we had to wear our safety harnesses. They were not very fun. We couldn't try to get in the front seat with Mom or do anything good.

You can tell from these pictures that we were not happy. We stopped in Boise at a dog park, but Mom forgot her camera to take pictures. It was kind of muddy, so we wrestled in the mud and then had dried mud on our fur for the rest of the trip. We looked like such tough, outdoorsy dogs!

We finally arrived in Washington after those torturous days on the road and tomorrow we get to the part of the story where we post about our new home!!

Wyoming is Boring

I spent a lot of the trip riding in the back of the 4Runner, supervising the furry beasts. Luckily the furry monsters had to wear their seat belt harness things and I was free to roam about.I spent some time in the front seat, allowing Mom to pet me when I commanded her to do so. She made me wear a stupid harness so she could attach a leash to me when necessary and I wouldn't escape from the car. So to punish her for those actions, I made her pet me a lot. I also discovered that it's nice to sleep in the floor by her feet because warm air blows about down there.

Anyway, we were driving across Wyoming when I decided that it was taking far too long. There wasn't anything good to stare at and I was getting bored supervising the furry beasts and demanding to be pet. So I took matters into my own paws. I started driving the car. I think we were done with Wyoming within about 30 minutes after I started driving. So that was a success. After I drove, I went back to the floor and took a nap across Utah. Some times a cat has to take charge!

Greetings From Washington!

Hey pups! Kat here. We made it to our new home and now we have internet. We have so much to write about, so I'm going to break it up into bits about our trip and arrival. I'll tell a little bit every day, and maybe I'll let Steve and Wilbur write some too.

On Wednesday, Steve and I went to day camp for the day. Mom and Dad picked us up and we hit the road. We had reservations in Salina, Kansas, that night, but since it took Dad a lot longer to pack the car, we didn't get there until 2 AM!!!

In the morning when we left, Dad was packing the car and left our food bowls on the top of the car. So we lost those somewhere in Kansas. We didn't discover that they were lost until later in the day when Mom and Dad were going to give us some water.

To make the trip easier on Steve and me, we stopped at some dog parks along the way. We stopped in Denver on Thanksgiving. Guess what? There was snow on the ground!! It was so cool. Here's a video of us running around in the snow.

Then I discovered that I could roll around in the snow! That was super good. Here's a video of me rolling around. Steve didn't want to make snow doggie angels like I did.

So that's my first update on our big trip. Today is also our dad's birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!

Departure Music

In honor of our departure, I wrote this song.

Kat
Come listen to a story ‘bout Valerie and Dave
Two poor engineers, barely kept their A/C paid,
Then one day they were dreamin’ of the North,
And up came a job and called them both forth.

Seattle that is.
Cloudy days, drizzle.

Well the first thing you know they were packing up their stuff,
Steve and Kat said, “Let’s move away from here!”
Said “Snowy mountains is the place we ought to be”
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Mill Creek.

Washington, that is.
Jumbo jets, mountains.

Our House: Tuesday Edition

Here's a picture of our house today. No, I am NOT looking at Steve's butt.

We are leaving tomorrow to drive to Seattle. We get to go to day camp in the morning and then Mom and Dad will pick us up and we will hit the road. Mom is bringing her laptop, so if we have internet at the hotels, we might post some pictures of our trip. Otherwise, we'll post on Monday when we get internet set up at our new residence.

Wish us luck that we see some snow on the trip!!

Our House: Monday Edition

Here's our house today. We couldn't pose for a picture. We were busy smelling and exploring. Mom made us stay outside almost all day! So cruel! We are inside dogs! We don't do outside. Mom said that I should be happy to be outside in the dry, warm air because soon enough I'll be begging for it. Something about how I don't like to get my paws wet. Whatever. What does she know? She is the meanie who made us stay outside!

Here's a picture of our house today.
Notice how handsome I look. Mom said, "Stay". I stayed and looked debonair for the camera. Kat did not. She looks goofy.

I'm Being Followed

I know I am an important and valuable asset to the War on Humans, but things have finally gone too far. Someone has put a trace on me. I think it started after I bit my mom really bad on her leg and made blood run down the leg. Apparently one of the top humans has decided I'm too dangerous and that they need to be aware of my every move, lest I attack more humans.

Now I am being followed by this gray, striped, snake like creature. I have been trying to defeat it, but to no avail. I came particularly close last night while I was relaxing in my Kitty Condo. I could see the snake creature just standing outside the door of my condo. Even though the creature is my enemy, I will grant him the compliment that he is very fast. I attacked several times and each time the creature was able to avoid my claws.

As you can hear, the humans are well aware of my follower and find it amusing that I have yet to capture the creature. This is how I know they are behind this plan.

I will keep you posted on new developments.

Oh What a Wonderful Morning!!

This morning, Mom got out of bed and fed us breakfast. We ate and it was yummy. Then Dad got out of bed and fed us breakfast. We ate and it was yummy.

Yes, that's right, we got TWO breakfasts! TWO! It was so great. We were about half way done with our second breakfast from Dad when Mom says, "Hey, I already fed them!" Dad didn't take our food away though. He just said, "Oh, I didn't realize you'd fed them. They acted hungry." Duh. We always act hungry. This time it paid off!

Mission From Turbo: FAILED

Last week, Turbo gave me a mission. "And speaking of sports, please have the Oklahoma State Cowboys destroy the Kansas Jayhawks, please!"

I took Turbo's mission to heart. In fact, yesterday I personally went to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to spread good luck all over the Oklahoma State University campus. The day started out okay. We rode in the car to Stillwater and Mom gave us some peanut butter and treat stuffed kongs to entertain us along the way. We met up with our Missouri grandparents at a famous restaurant called Eskimo Joes. Since it was game day, Eskimo Joes was packed. The inside of the restaurant was so busy that they had a place outside where people could order food. So Mom ordered food and all the humans sat at tables outside and Steve and I got to lay down on the ground under the table. Mom was very proud of how well we behaved. Our Missouri Grandpa even shared some of his hamburger with Steve.
So things were going pretty well. After we ate, I told Mom that we needed to walk around campus so I could spread good luck. So off we went with Mom and Dad. I was feeling the good luck vibes all over the place. Everywhere we went were people dressed in OSU clothes telling us how we were the most pretty dogs ever. We got to the middle of campus and I just knew that OSU would win the big game since good luck was all over. That's when Steve ruined EVERYTHING! See, Steve isn't an OSU fan. He's a Texas A&M fan like Dad. So he waited until the perfect moment to sabotage my good luck plan. Right in the middle of campus, do you know what Steve did? He pooped! Steve said he was mad that the Missouri Tigers beat Texas A&M and so he couldn't help Turbo out since he thinks Turbo is a Missouri fan.

With that poop from Steve, everything was over. It was like his poop sucked the good luck out of the campus. After Steve pooped, we just saw Kansas Jayhawk fans telling us how gorgeous we were and that was just not good news for my Cowboys.

So I'm sorry Turbo, I did the best I could. Stupid Steve just had to go a ruin it.

Tubular Steve

Back during Blogathon, Wilbur posted about the traps in his room that keep us from eating his food. Sometimes when Mom just needs to run into Wilbur's room to do something really quick, she doesn't shut the gate all the way and I follow her in there. So that's what happened the other day. I walked into the room behind Mom. I wasn't sneaking around or anything. After a while, she turned around and this is what she saw.
I DID NOT eat any of Wilbur's food. Of course, that is what Mom thought I was planning to do. How does she know? Maybe I like lying down in tunnels. Or maybe I just wanted a drink from Wilbur's water fountain. Who says I had to be after Wilbur's food?

To get me out of the tunnel, first Dad tried pulling my legs. No budging. So he just picked up the tunnel with me in it and put it out in the open. After that scary experience, I climbed out on my own!

Move Details

Now that the big announcement has been made, we have received some questions from our friends, so we're going to fill everypup in on the details.

As most of our friends know, we were going to move to Maryland in the fall of 2008. That move was for a temporary assignment with Mom and Dad's work. They have been talking for months about where they want to move after the Maryland assignment was completed since Dad was positive he didn't want to move back to Texas. He has basically spent his entire life in Texas and wants to move somewhere with mountains, water, and lots of trees and grass. At first he mentioned Denver, but Mom thought it would be too cold for her. (Not for us though!) So they had agreed on Seattle.

Then in early October, Mom got a phone call for an interview with a company in the Seattle area. (Remember when we got the cookies with our names on them? Mom bought them for us in Seattle! We both hope now that we will live there, we will get cookies like those every day.) Apparently the people interviewing Mom liked her and the company gave her a job offer. So long story short, she is going to take it and we are moving over Thanksgiving. Mom and Dad decided just to take the plunge and move up there now instead of in a year or two after the temporary assignment. At first it will just be Mom and "the zoo" (that's what she calls all the pets) living up there. Dad is going to stay back in Texas and work on selling the house for a while, but we are hoping that he comes up there shortly after Christmas. He will definitely be visiting us a lot, because who wouldn't miss our cute faces?

This move is going to mean big changes for Mom and Dad, but also for us! We are going to be living in a townhome. Wilbur is pretty excited because he loves stairs to run up and down. However, Mom is worried about us because we won't have a backyard. It's just a temporary solution so we'll see how it goes. There is a trail right behind the townhome community so we can go on walks there and the townhome is within walking distance of a store that sells Canidae! I don't know who is planning to walk home with a 40 pound bag of dog food on their shoulder! Mom said the store also sells tons of "good for you" treats, so we would be happy to go shopping there and consume our purchases on the premises. We are also excited about the dog parks. We've been reading Royal's blog for a long time and have been really jealous of his cool dog park and now we can go there! Mom has already emailed Royal's mom and we might have a play date sometime. Royal's mom gave us the lowdown on all the area dog parks.

Mom and Dad were surprised at how difficult it was to find somewhere to rent with us. Not just pets in general, but Siberian Huskies. At some complexes, huskies were on the banned breed list. They were so surprised to discover that. They found us a nice place to live, but it costs a bit more than some of the other places that they were considering. It must be a husky's destructive nature that has gotten them banned some places since we aren't typically aggressive dogs.

The best part of this move is that we will finally see some snow. It might not snow much at all where we live, but Mom and Dad promised to take us to see snow in the mountains for a Christmas present. It's going to be so great. We're also going to start working on our Working Pack Dog titles next summer. There will be lots of trails to explore.

Finally we want to share a poem written for us by Star and Jack-a-roo. It's a great poem and in case some of you didn't see it in the comment of our last post, we wanted to publish it here.

Steve and Kat and Wilbur too
Will soon be going on a move.
Pack your bowls and pack your toys,
Pack all the things that bring you joy.
And on your way up to Seattle
Watch out for strays and big-horned cattle.

Thanks so much for the poem, Star and Jack! Everyone else, stay tuned for more moving news. :-)
Steve and Kat

PS (from Kat). Turbo, I will do my best to get the Cowboys beating the Jayhawks. However, did you see what happened when they played the Longhorns last weekend? Aren't Cowboys supposed to be in charge of Longhorns? Oh, and yes, we do know that the mascot for the University of Washington is a husky. Mom said we should get jobs being the mascot at football games so we could earn our treats!

Movin', Movin', Movin'

Movin', Movin', Movin',
Steve and Kat are movin',
All the way to Washington State!

It's gonna be lots of fun,
Except for the long car ride,
But maybe we'll see snow along the way!

Wilbur's excited too,
He's gonna live somewhere with stairs,
And lots of places to hide from the beasts!

We'll give you more details later,
We just needed to tell you all,
That we are movin' to Seattle!

(Note: Dad pointed out that this doesn't rhyme. What's a girl to do when she's composing lyrics at 6:30 in the morning? Kat)

Dog Park Video

We have a big announcement to make, but we're not going to make it today. I know, I know, you're disappointed. This is like on TV when a show gives a big cliffhanger. I've got to keep my readers eagerly awaiting new posts, so this is my cliffhanger.

Anyway, to keep you busy until we make our announcement, I'm going to share a video from the dog park. Steve is always lallygagging around not paying attention. I am always hunting him. Mom says I act exactly like a cat. I don't know what else she expects since that's my name. Anyway, in this video, I'm stalking Steve. Mom didn't get her camera on fast enough to show the whole thing. I had been crouching along the ground getting ready to pounce on him.

After we had a good chase, I decided I should roll around in the grass for a bit. The grass felt really great, but for some reason, Dad and Steve didn't want to roll around with me.Have a good weekend, pups!
