Steve the Snow Nosed Husky

Yesterday we woke up to find SNOW! It was so awesome. Mom and Dad let us play in the snow in the morning and then again at night because it didn't melt. We have some really funny videos, but we have to get those uploaded. In the meantime, I thought I would tell you a story about Steve and then unveil my latest song. Steve hasn't really ever liked the snow when we've seen it. He doesn't want to roll around and make doggie snow angels with me or even walk in the snow much. So I used to make fun of him for that. I mean, what kind of husky doesn't like snow? A stupid one! Then yesterday, Steve walked in the snow and played a game where he kept his head down and plowed through the snow with his nose. Mom caught this picture of him when we were getting ready to go back inside. So that picture inspired my latest song. I hope you like it.

Steve the Snow Nosed Husky
By Katherine Olivia

Stevie the snow nosed husky
Had a very snowy nose!
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it's cold!
All of the other huskies
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Stevie
Join in any husky games!
Then one snowy winter morn
Steve looked out to say,
"Mom and Dad the ground's so white,
Let's go out and play tonight!"
Oh how the huskies loved him
As they woo-ed out with glee
Stevie the snow nosed husky
You'll be cute for all history!

Departure Music

In honor of our departure, I wrote this song.

Kat
Come listen to a story ‘bout Valerie and Dave
Two poor engineers, barely kept their A/C paid,
Then one day they were dreamin’ of the North,
And up came a job and called them both forth.

Seattle that is.
Cloudy days, drizzle.

Well the first thing you know they were packing up their stuff,
Steve and Kat said, “Let’s move away from here!”
Said “Snowy mountains is the place we ought to be”
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Mill Creek.

Washington, that is.
Jumbo jets, mountains.

The Puget Sound Texans!

Movin', Movin', Movin'

Movin', Movin', Movin',
Steve and Kat are movin',
All the way to Washington State!

It's gonna be lots of fun,
Except for the long car ride,
But maybe we'll see snow along the way!

Wilbur's excited too,
He's gonna live somewhere with stairs,
And lots of places to hide from the beasts!

We'll give you more details later,
We just needed to tell you all,
That we are movin' to Seattle!

(Note: Dad pointed out that this doesn't rhyme. What's a girl to do when she's composing lyrics at 6:30 in the morning? Kat)

Kat's Song #2

At Sitka’s request, I wrote a new song. Many of my loyal fans will remember my first song, “Before They Leave”, which is sure to be a number one song on the Dogboard Music Charts any day now. This new song is titled “Traction (I Can’t Get No)”. I was inspired to write this song after one too many days of trying to run through the house only to find that I can’t get a good grip on the floors. And now, without further ado, I hope you enjoy my new song. (You should sing it to the tune of The Rolling Stones’ song “Satisfaction (I Can’t Get No)”.)

Kat

Traction (I Can’t Get No)
By Katherine Olivia

I can't get no four paw traction
I can't get no four paw traction
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm runnin' in my house
And I want to run to the patio
I keep slippin’ on the floor
That useless hardwood floor
It keeps me from where I want to go
I can't get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that's what I say

I can't get no four paw traction
I can't get no four paw traction
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm sleepin' on the bed
And that cat comes up and hurdles me
I want to chase him down the hall
But I can't because I just slip and slide
Then he goes and gets away
I can't get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that's what I say

I can't get no four paw traction
I can't get no four paw traction
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm chewin' on my Nylabone
And I’m gettin' barked at by silly Steve
And I'm tryin' to ignore him but it’s hard
I want to jump up and chase him away
But if I do, I’ll probably slide into the wall
I can't get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that's what I say

I can't get no, I can't get no
I can't get no four paw traction
No four paw traction, no four paw traction, no four paw traction

AHDI Contest #2

Here’s our second contest based on the Adopt a Husky of Dallas website. Same rules as before, but this time we are only asking three questions so that it won’t be as hard. The winner will get this “red hot” lobster stuffie that has a squeaker.

1. Name the pregnant husky who is used as an example of why the rescue needs so much money.

2. How many huskies are currently in vetting and evaluation? (Hint: they haven’t been listed with pictures yet.)

3. Name one of the local obedience clubs listed.

Good luck!

PS. Sitka, Kat's working on a new song, but I hope you're willing to stay up late to see it when she's done! She's got a lot more work to do on it. But as she says, "I have to give my fans what they want."
