Dad's Birthday

We are really far behind with blogging. Steve hasn’t been feeling very well. We don’t know what is wrong with him, but he’s just not himself. He doesn’t like to be touched and has started refusing to jump off the bed. Mom is taking him to the vet again tomorrow to see about getting x-rays of his hips and back. So instead of blogging, Mom sits around and loves on Steve and then reads her vet book to try to diagnose Steve. She thinks he has every ailment in the entire book at this point.

Anyway, last time we blogged, we said we would tell you about Dad’s birthday. We gave him a card and some Kit Kats. Earlier in the month he got a new Xbox 360 because his old one broke, so he got his present early. Dad also got this yummy looking cake from Cold Stone Creamery.

A few days before Dad’s birthday, our Texas grandma sent us some special cookies and we saved them to eat on the big day. The cookies were in this tin.

The cookies looked like this. The Texas A&M football helmet is for Steve and the orange leaf is for me. The store didn’t have any OSU helmets, but I liked the orange leaves with sparklies.DSC_0622.FpqW05B5ywpI.jpg
Since it was Dad’s birthday, he got to pass out the cookies.DSC_0624.oqRgi32FQ8es.jpg
We got nose-to-cookie and boy, they smelled yummy.DSC_0626.BkQR5CwJg6jn.jpg
Right after that picture was taken, we got to eat the cookies and I can tell you, they tasted as good as they smelled and looked!

Dad got a new game for his Xbox 360 from our Missouri grandparents and Wilbur helped him try it out.DSC_0627.FbFZFMCmbFtg.jpg
Note: Mom says not to look too closely at that room because it’s Dad’s man room, which he shares with Wilbur, so she lets Dad be messy up there.

So as you can see, we all helped Dad celebrate his birthday!

I stand in support too!

A few days ago, Stormy of the Army of Four posted about how she supported Martha and Bailey in their protest of pictures. I think this is a very worthy cause and I support them too! Just to show my support, I am going to share some pictures that Mom tried to take of the two of us in our OSU football jerseys.

I think those make the point quite nicely.

Trick or Treat!

Happy Halloween!!

I hope you're all having a great Halloween. We're getting ready to nap here. Mom is talking about giving us baths, but I bet she can't if we are sleeping, right?

Last night we dressed up and went trick or treating. It was really fun. The whole family dressed up as football players. Mom and I were Oklahoma State Cowboys and Steve and Dad were Texas A&M Aggies.

First we stopped at Paddywack and picked up our treat bags and a stack of clues. Then we had to figure out the clues and go to the store that matched the clue to get our treat. You can see in this picture that we were working hard to figure out the clues.
100_3287crop
We walked all over the Town Center, collecting treats. Luckily we let Mom and Dad carry our treat bags so we could keep an eye on all the other dogs to see if anypup had the same costume (they didn't).

We even got to go into some stores we've never been in before, like a real estate business and a children's clothing store. For some reason, Mom made us stay outside with Dad at the pottery place and at the place with all the glass shelves.

The very last clue led us to a stop where there was coffee, cider, and donuts for the humans and a lady with a silver tray full of treats for Steve and me. Steve got so excited every time the lady with the silver tray came near him. She had hot dogs with cheese!

We were pretty tired.

Right before we left, I cuddled up to Mom.

And Steve gave Dad a happy smile.

Then we ran all the way back to the car because it started raining. We got done trick or treating just in time!

I hope you all have as good of a Halloween as we have!

A friendly wager

During the first college football game of this season, Kat and Mom's Oklahoma State University Cowboys were playing Sitka and Cornelia Marie's University of Georgia Bulldogs. After studying the legality of sports betting, we determined that dogs are allowed to bet on sporting events, so we made a wager with Sitka and Cornelia Marie that if the Cowboys won, they would buy us an order of Happy Hearts and if the Bulldogs won, we would buy an order for them.

During the first part of the game, things were not looking that great for the Cowboys. Kat was pretty depressed. At half-time, Kat barked a lot at the TV and apparently the Cowboys received the message because they came out strong in the second half and won the game. Kat was so excited for her team and I was so excited for some Happy Hearts!

Our cookies arrived recently and boy, was I glad!

We ordered some of the new summer flavors. Watermelon and ginger. I have to say I give them both a big paws up.

Mom tried to get some good pictures of me eating, but you can see how well that worked.

She did get a good picture of Kat eating one of the squirrels.

I should also mention that with this order, I have become an official Happy Hearts taste tester. I am really excited to be able to be recognized in an official capacity for my favorite hobby -- eating!

So I have to give a big thanks to Sitka and Cornelia Marie for the cookies, Happy Hearts for the cookies too, the Cowboys for winning the game, and to Kat for being a fan of the Cowboys. It is handy to have a sister who's a fan of a good football team. Dad and I are in for a depressing season, I'm afraid.

Football Time!

Since it's Saturday, College Football Day, I decided to post these pictures of last weekend.  It was a big day for Steve and my college teams.

First, Texas A&M (Steve and Dad's team) played Kansas State.  Steve and Dad were totally ready to cheer them on.  Go Aggies!
Unfortunately, the KSU Wildcats managed to tame the Aggies and Steve and Dad were very sad.  (Wilbur was happy since he says cats always win.)
Next up was Oklahoma State playing Missouri.  Mom and I LOVE OSU!  We were super excited to cheer for them.
It was a big game for OSU since they were playing Missouri AT Missouri and Missouri was the #3 team.  Notice I say WAS since OSU won!  Mom and I were super happy as you can see in this picture.
Okay, I was happy on the inside.  Really.  Don't believe what you see in that picture.

Today is another big day for our teams.  Unfortunately for Steve and Dad, I'm predicting that the Aggies will come up short again since they are playing #7 Texas Tech.  However, I hope that Mom and I are still happy at the end of the day since now #8 OSU should have a fairly easy game against Baylor.  I hope I didn't just jinx it!

Go Big 12!

Our productive weekend

Whew!  I'm sure tired from the weekend.  Kat and I worked hard all weekend long.  We installed a nice flagstone patio in front of Dad's shed.  In addition to installing the patio, we also planted bushes.  Here we are inspecting our work.

Be sure to notice Dad just standing there doing nothing while we worked really hard.  Here's another picture from a different angle.
Do you want to know what Mom and Dad were doing while we were slaving away?  They were watching Oklahoma State University's first football game of the season against Washington State University.  The game was in Seattle at the Seahawks' stadium.
It's a good thing that Mom and Dad have us because otherwise they would have had to stay home and work instead of sitting and watching football while eating french fries and hamburgers.

Our new vet

I went to the vet today to be tested for giardia.  Mom took me to a vet that was recommended to her by one of her new coworkers.  Get this.  Her coworker's name is Steve and he has a husky.  My name is Steve and I am a husky.  That is really weird, right?  Anyway, Mom's coworker Steve takes his husky to a vet near our house, so Mom decided to try it out.  She looked at the website and the head vet went to vet school at the University of Missouri.  Since Mom grew up in Missouri, she figured that he was probably a good vet.  But today, when we got to the vet, guess where the vet I saw went to vet school.  Oklahoma State University!  That's where Mom went to college too, so at that point, she knew we were at a great place.  Mom really liked the vet that we talked to and he used to have an Alaskan Malamute, so he was even familiar with northern breeds.

Anyway, I was nice enough to leave the vet with some poop, so they are going to send it to the lab to be tested and we'll find out if I have giardia in a couple days.  The vet said it's very common in this area because there is typically a lot of standing water.

Steve

PS. We got a great present from a special friend in Louisiana, but we're having issues with video uploading tonight, so we will post about that as soon as the video is working.  But we want to say THANK WOO!!

Mission From Turbo: FAILED

Last week, Turbo gave me a mission. "And speaking of sports, please have the Oklahoma State Cowboys destroy the Kansas Jayhawks, please!"

I took Turbo's mission to heart. In fact, yesterday I personally went to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to spread good luck all over the Oklahoma State University campus. The day started out okay. We rode in the car to Stillwater and Mom gave us some peanut butter and treat stuffed kongs to entertain us along the way. We met up with our Missouri grandparents at a famous restaurant called Eskimo Joes. Since it was game day, Eskimo Joes was packed. The inside of the restaurant was so busy that they had a place outside where people could order food. So Mom ordered food and all the humans sat at tables outside and Steve and I got to lay down on the ground under the table. Mom was very proud of how well we behaved. Our Missouri Grandpa even shared some of his hamburger with Steve.
So things were going pretty well. After we ate, I told Mom that we needed to walk around campus so I could spread good luck. So off we went with Mom and Dad. I was feeling the good luck vibes all over the place. Everywhere we went were people dressed in OSU clothes telling us how we were the most pretty dogs ever. We got to the middle of campus and I just knew that OSU would win the big game since good luck was all over. That's when Steve ruined EVERYTHING! See, Steve isn't an OSU fan. He's a Texas A&M fan like Dad. So he waited until the perfect moment to sabotage my good luck plan. Right in the middle of campus, do you know what Steve did? He pooped! Steve said he was mad that the Missouri Tigers beat Texas A&M and so he couldn't help Turbo out since he thinks Turbo is a Missouri fan.

With that poop from Steve, everything was over. It was like his poop sucked the good luck out of the campus. After Steve pooped, we just saw Kansas Jayhawk fans telling us how gorgeous we were and that was just not good news for my Cowboys.

So I'm sorry Turbo, I did the best I could. Stupid Steve just had to go a ruin it.

Move Details

Now that the big announcement has been made, we have received some questions from our friends, so we're going to fill everypup in on the details.

As most of our friends know, we were going to move to Maryland in the fall of 2008. That move was for a temporary assignment with Mom and Dad's work. They have been talking for months about where they want to move after the Maryland assignment was completed since Dad was positive he didn't want to move back to Texas. He has basically spent his entire life in Texas and wants to move somewhere with mountains, water, and lots of trees and grass. At first he mentioned Denver, but Mom thought it would be too cold for her. (Not for us though!) So they had agreed on Seattle.

Then in early October, Mom got a phone call for an interview with a company in the Seattle area. (Remember when we got the cookies with our names on them? Mom bought them for us in Seattle! We both hope now that we will live there, we will get cookies like those every day.) Apparently the people interviewing Mom liked her and the company gave her a job offer. So long story short, she is going to take it and we are moving over Thanksgiving. Mom and Dad decided just to take the plunge and move up there now instead of in a year or two after the temporary assignment. At first it will just be Mom and "the zoo" (that's what she calls all the pets) living up there. Dad is going to stay back in Texas and work on selling the house for a while, but we are hoping that he comes up there shortly after Christmas. He will definitely be visiting us a lot, because who wouldn't miss our cute faces?

This move is going to mean big changes for Mom and Dad, but also for us! We are going to be living in a townhome. Wilbur is pretty excited because he loves stairs to run up and down. However, Mom is worried about us because we won't have a backyard. It's just a temporary solution so we'll see how it goes. There is a trail right behind the townhome community so we can go on walks there and the townhome is within walking distance of a store that sells Canidae! I don't know who is planning to walk home with a 40 pound bag of dog food on their shoulder! Mom said the store also sells tons of "good for you" treats, so we would be happy to go shopping there and consume our purchases on the premises. We are also excited about the dog parks. We've been reading Royal's blog for a long time and have been really jealous of his cool dog park and now we can go there! Mom has already emailed Royal's mom and we might have a play date sometime. Royal's mom gave us the lowdown on all the area dog parks.

Mom and Dad were surprised at how difficult it was to find somewhere to rent with us. Not just pets in general, but Siberian Huskies. At some complexes, huskies were on the banned breed list. They were so surprised to discover that. They found us a nice place to live, but it costs a bit more than some of the other places that they were considering. It must be a husky's destructive nature that has gotten them banned some places since we aren't typically aggressive dogs.

The best part of this move is that we will finally see some snow. It might not snow much at all where we live, but Mom and Dad promised to take us to see snow in the mountains for a Christmas present. It's going to be so great. We're also going to start working on our Working Pack Dog titles next summer. There will be lots of trails to explore.

Finally we want to share a poem written for us by Star and Jack-a-roo. It's a great poem and in case some of you didn't see it in the comment of our last post, we wanted to publish it here.

Steve and Kat and Wilbur too
Will soon be going on a move.
Pack your bowls and pack your toys,
Pack all the things that bring you joy.
And on your way up to Seattle
Watch out for strays and big-horned cattle.

Thanks so much for the poem, Star and Jack! Everyone else, stay tuned for more moving news. :-)
Steve and Kat

PS (from Kat). Turbo, I will do my best to get the Cowboys beating the Jayhawks. However, did you see what happened when they played the Longhorns last weekend? Aren't Cowboys supposed to be in charge of Longhorns? Oh, and yes, we do know that the mascot for the University of Washington is a husky. Mom said we should get jobs being the mascot at football games so we could earn our treats!

Boo Team, Yea Ulee!

Well, my team didn't win. It's okay though because I'm still happy. We just met Ulee's new family and they are awesome! They loved Ulee and Ulee loved them. She gave them some kisses and enjoyed the tummy rubs they gave her. Steve loved Ulee's new family too because they brought him treats. You all know how he loves treats! (Okay, I love treats too.) Ulee's family has a neighbor who is a dog trainer, so Ulee's going to go to training too. Dad said after only a few lessons she'd be better than us. (We didn't mind our manners with Ulee's new family.) Ulee's family even brought her a bunch of toys to play with in the car during the ride back to California. I know she's going to have a great life. They are only one mile from the ocean! How cool is that?

Anyway, we don't have much else to say, but I know everypup was wondering how Ulee's meeting with her family went!

Go Team!

In honor of Oklahoma State University's season opening game against the University of Georgia, I want to say...

GO COWBOYS!!!

Watch out Sitka. She's a Georgia Bulldogs fan and one of my best friends, so we'll be friends no matter what the outcome, but it's fun to tease. :-)
