Ice Cream Hangover

As you saw in my Wordless Wednesday post, I was given the big job of licking the ice cream container clean. It's really a hard job, but somepup had to do it, so I stepped up to the plate. After licking out ice cream containers, sometimes a pup feels a little hungover.

Kat says the best medicine for an ice cream hangover is a nice, long walk, so we suited up for one. I think maybe Kat thought that I wouldn't make it so she really twisted us up so I had to keep pace with her.

I guess that's what's nice about having a sister. Sure, they boss you around a lot, but they are always there to help you get through a walk.

Also, don't forget! One week until the start of our Summer Road Trip contest.

Ice Cream Run

Yesterday we went on a family outing to a place called Husky Ice Cream.
IMG_0459
They make all their ice cream in the store and with a name like "Husky" you know it's going to be the best. What we didn't know until we got there was that the neighborhood was having a street fair, so the place (the ice cream shop and the streets) were packed! That doesn't bother Kat or me though because we like being admired by all the people. What it does mean is that Mom didn't get very good pictures because there were so many people around.

When we first got there, Dad left us with Mom and went inside to decide what flavor he wanted. He picked Oreo. While he was inside, Kat and I were very good and sat next to Mom. She could hardly believe how good we were but mentioned that the summer heat has it's advantages, whatever that means. After Dad picked his flavor, he came back outside and gave his order to Mom and then stayed outside with us while Mom went to get the ice cream. At this point, I was getting kind of worried, because Mom didn't ask me for my order.

I shouldn't have doubted Mom though because she came back out of the store with two bowls of vanilla ice cream for Kat and me, Dad's Oreo ice cream cone, and a chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream cone for her. We never knew she could balance so much ice cream! Right away, Kat and I got to work eating our ice cream so it wouldn't melt.

I think Kat started to worry that I was going to try to take hers because she picked it up and moved.

About this time, Mom's ice cream cone was dripping on her hands, so she stopped taking pictures.

We really loved our ice cream. It's the first ice cream we've had that wasn't soft serve and it was delicious and took us a lot longer to eat, which Mom and Dad both appreciated. So I say, if you're in the area, go get yourself some!

Let's Celebrate!

It's official! We're a house full of Canine Good Citizens! I passed my test this afternoon, joining Steve among the ranks of the certifiable. Wait, is that a good thing?

To celebrate, we went to get ice cream.

Here's Dad ordering two vanilla cones.

He was really happy to order ice cream for his Certified Good Girl.

Steve kept an eye on Dad to make sure he ordered everything correctly. Steve was also hoping for some chicken nuggets, but that didn't happen.

Here's me peeking through to tell the drive-thru lady to pile a lot of ice cream on the cone.

Yes! Ice cream!

I think you should all go get ice cream to celebrate too!

Steve hearts ice cream

This video was taken on our birthday. Dad bought us ice cream cones from McDonalds and the cones were in the freezer. I knew they were there and then Dad started torturing me! It was so terrible.

Luckily, after all the torture, I did get my ice cream.

Why oh why?

Wednesday night was horrible for me.  First Dad bribed me into staying outside with him while Mom and Kat were inside.  Then when I was allowed to go back inside, Kat and Mom were nowhere to be found!  I was sure that the boogie man had gotten them, but I couldn't get Dad to care at all.  I ran back and forth between the front window and the backyard, but I couldn't pick up the trail.  Then I sat down in the back yard and howled, just in case the Siberian Network knew where Mom and Kat had been taken.  It was a horrible two hours.  I thought I might die.  No amount of crying and pouting on my part inspired Dad to go look for them.

Finally Mom and Kat returned and guess what I got?  My very own ice cream cone.  Not a doggie cone either, a full-size human ice cream.  Mom felt so bad for me that I had been left home alone.  Apparently Mom and Kat were not kidnapped after all!

Here we are, dynamic duo, back together again.
Now, I understand that Mom and Kat were not kidnapped, but I hope they don't leave me like that again!

Cover Dog Contest

On Sunday, Mom took me to compete in a cover dog contest. There will be four contests around the Seattle area from now through October. One winner will be chosen from each contest then the big winner will be selected from the four finalists. The big winner gets to be the cover dog for the winter issue of City Dog Magazine.

I was looking pretty handsome. Mom pressed and starched my bandanna so it would be very crisp. I had just been to the groomer on Friday, so I was clean and very soft and fluffy. Since Dad wasn’t home yet, Kat had to stay home.

When we got to the contest, we checked in and got a number. We were #48. Once I heard that, I thought “Wow, there are a lot of dogs here.” We had about 30 minutes to wait until we were supposed to line up for the contest, so Mom and I walked around the festival for a bit. Everyone who saw me told me that I was so handsome.

Finally it was time to line up. You should have seen how many dogs were there! It was insane. There were almost 150 dogs entered into the contest.

The contest organizers made all of us dogs and parents line up right against the lake. Mom said that wasn’t very smart to have a beauty pageant for dogs and expect them to stay clean when they hand to stand a couple feet away from the lake and watch the ducks swimming. I was good though and with Mom’s guidance (and some treats), I didn’t get in the water.

Here's a video of the ducks.

When it was my turn, I got my picture taken. I think it was a good picture because I tilted my head, looked right at the camera and smiled. Then I had to walk across the stage. I sat and looked at the judges, but I wouldn’t shake like Mom wanted.

After my turn, we still had a while to wait for all of the other dogs to go, so Mom and I went and got some ice cream. The only ice cream she could find had chocolate on it, but she bought an ice cream bar and we shared it. Mom ate the chocolate shell and I ate the vanilla ice cream inside. It was really tasty and cooled me off since it was pretty hot outside.

By the time we were done with our ice cream bar, it was about time for the winners to be announced. I had a pretty good feeling about my chances. Mom and I headed back over to the contest area and the judges announced the top three dogs.

Unfortunately I was not in the top three. (The little dog won.)  Can you believe it? I was really disappointed. Mom and I had a long, depressing walk back to the car.

The good news is that I get my picture in the magazine because every dog who entered will be included. Mom says we’ll try again at another contest and take Kat along so she can get her picture in the magazine too. I’m working on an impressive trick for the next contest.

Feelin' hot, hot, HOT

Hi pups. Sorry for not blogging this weekend. I've been roasting in my fur coat. It was sunny and over 90 degrees both days this weekend. On Saturday, I was loving it. I just relaxed, sun bathed and worked on my tan. Then Sunday, I couldn't take it much more. I didn't want to go outside, but it was just as hot inside. We don't have air conditioning. I stood in front of the magic cold box, but only got a fresh breeze when Mom would get something out of it. Mom did give me a little bit of watermelon to cool off, but it wasn't enough. I started sleeping in the hallway. It's the darkest area of the house and also has cool, wood floors. Then when it was bedtime, Mom made me come in the bedroom. It was so hot. I had to get off the bed and sleep on the floor. That's how hot it was. You all know heat rises, so I tried to stay as low on the floor as possible. It was miserable.

Mom did take me to get an ice cream cone Sunday afternoon, so that helped. She and Dad also tried to find us new kiddie pools but could only find blow-up ones and those are not claw friendly. I hope she can find a plastic one soon!

So we'll get back to blogging regularly as soon as I recover from my heat stroke!
Steve

PS. Something must be wrong with Mom. She was going on about how the weather was great and she could finally wear shorts, blah, blah, blah! I'm going to have to have her head examined.

Meet you at DQ

The Dairy Queen near our house is awesome.  They give us free doggie cones at the drive thru.  I thought maybe my blogging friends would also like to get free doggie cones, so I decided to write some instructions for you all.

Ordering is very important.  There are a lot of good things on the menu, however, many of the items have the dreaded chocolate in them, so doggie beware!  I stick to just a plain ice cream cone myself.  So while Dad is deciding what to order, I send Sibe Mind Meld messages to the drive thru worker so they know what I want to order.
As Dad pulls up to the drive thru window, he rolls the back window down and Kat and I make sure our presence is known.  That's an important step because moms and dads don't want to look like pigs, so the DQ employees need to know that some ice cream is for us!
Usually at this point, the drive thru employee says, "Oh, you're the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen!" and all the other employees whole-heartedly agree.  Then they hand out two doggie cones.  Usually we just get the cones without a bowl, but the day Mom took the pictures, one of the cones was leaking so the drive thru person put them in lids for us.
Kat usually eats hers a little slower than me.  She even took the bowl instead of just taking the cone like me!
Mom couldn't get a good picture of me, but here's her attempt.  I just love ice cream cones.  I gobble them up at just the right speed.  Remember pups, not too fast because you don't want to get a brain freeze!
Well, that's it!  Go get your human and head out to DQ!
