Cover Dog Contest

On Sunday, Mom took me to compete in a cover dog contest. There will be four contests around the Seattle area from now through October. One winner will be chosen from each contest then the big winner will be selected from the four finalists. The big winner gets to be the cover dog for the winter issue of City Dog Magazine.

I was looking pretty handsome. Mom pressed and starched my bandanna so it would be very crisp. I had just been to the groomer on Friday, so I was clean and very soft and fluffy. Since Dad wasn’t home yet, Kat had to stay home.

When we got to the contest, we checked in and got a number. We were #48. Once I heard that, I thought “Wow, there are a lot of dogs here.” We had about 30 minutes to wait until we were supposed to line up for the contest, so Mom and I walked around the festival for a bit. Everyone who saw me told me that I was so handsome.

Finally it was time to line up. You should have seen how many dogs were there! It was insane. There were almost 150 dogs entered into the contest.

The contest organizers made all of us dogs and parents line up right against the lake. Mom said that wasn’t very smart to have a beauty pageant for dogs and expect them to stay clean when they hand to stand a couple feet away from the lake and watch the ducks swimming. I was good though and with Mom’s guidance (and some treats), I didn’t get in the water.

Here's a video of the ducks.

When it was my turn, I got my picture taken. I think it was a good picture because I tilted my head, looked right at the camera and smiled. Then I had to walk across the stage. I sat and looked at the judges, but I wouldn’t shake like Mom wanted.

After my turn, we still had a while to wait for all of the other dogs to go, so Mom and I went and got some ice cream. The only ice cream she could find had chocolate on it, but she bought an ice cream bar and we shared it. Mom ate the chocolate shell and I ate the vanilla ice cream inside. It was really tasty and cooled me off since it was pretty hot outside.

By the time we were done with our ice cream bar, it was about time for the winners to be announced. I had a pretty good feeling about my chances. Mom and I headed back over to the contest area and the judges announced the top three dogs.

Unfortunately I was not in the top three. (The little dog won.)  Can you believe it? I was really disappointed. Mom and I had a long, depressing walk back to the car.

The good news is that I get my picture in the magazine because every dog who entered will be included. Mom says we’ll try again at another contest and take Kat along so she can get her picture in the magazine too. I’m working on an impressive trick for the next contest.

Interview with Marley

Marley sent me some interview questions. I can't wait to answer them! Marley's questions are in red.

1. If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? What a great question! I think I would pick somewhere with snow. We don't get much, if any, snow in Texas. Maybe Iceland. That sounds like a good, cold place!

2. If you could eat one people food item every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
This one is easy. Bananas!! I love them. Whenever Dad is eating a bananas, I try to look as cute as I can possibly look in the hopes that he will give me a luscious bite of banana. Unfortunately, Dad and Mom have this stupid idea that if they give us food while they are eating, then we will beg for food every time they eat. So we only get banana when Mom cuts it up especially for us. Where do humans get these ideas?

3. If you were a super hero, what would your name be, and what powers would you have?
I would be SUPER SILLY STEVE, or S-cubed for short. My power would be to bring laughter to all I encounter. I like to be goofy, so this power would be right up my alley. Here is a good SUPER SILLY STEVE picture.
4. Getting dressed up by a human: cool or lame? It depends. If it's actual clothes, then it's lame. But sometimes Mom makes us wear bandannas and that's not so bad because it usually means we are going some place cool and when we wear bandannas, people always think we are extra awesome, so we get lots of attention and pets. I'm cool with that.

5. What is your favorite pastime?
It's a toss up between eating and chewing on my Kong. I love both a lot.

Now, if you want me to interview you, you can abide by these rules.
1. If you are interested in being interviewed, leave me a comment saying, 'interview me.'
2. I will respond by posting five questions for you. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with a post containing your answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Our new duds

("Duds" means "clothes" if you don't speak Texan or Cowboy. Just so you're not confused by my title. Ha, ha, woo, woo!)

We're going to the Bow Wow Pow Wow tomorrow afternoon. Since we always have to look extra stylish when we go on outings, Mom made us new bandannas. These are really cute. Red fabric with black paw prints and black edges. Mine looks especially good if I do say so myself. My black fur really compliments it. Here we are modeling our new bandannas. You can't see the bandannas that well in this picture, but Dad was outside, so Mom was posing us and taking the picture, which is pretty hard when we are uncooperative.Mom always makes us match. Do you think that's just a little bit too much? I realize we're littermates and all, but we do have our own identities. Sigh...
