Feather Hunter

Mom and Dad moved the furry beasts' crate into the living room for July 4 so they would feel better about the fireworks. The four of them also went to the dog park on July 4th evening because the dog park is inside city limits where no fireworks are allowed. While they were at the dog park, Mom found a feather on the ground and picked it up to bring home for me. (I have her well trained.)

When the furry beast cage is in the living room, I like to sleep on top of it and so that's where Mom found me and started helping me hunt the feather.

First I rolled over and grabbed the feather as it tried to attack my tummy.
DSC_0081crop
Then I deployed my claws and decided to get serious about taking down the feather.
DSC_0083crop
I got a taste of the feather and it was good.
DSC_0084crop
I was very intent on getting the feather.
DSC_0089
Alas! The feather was on the ground!
DSC_0090crop
I delivered one final blow and the feather was dead.
DSC_0091crop
Feather hunting is great fun. I wonder if I should mount the feather on the wall of my room like my Texas grandpa does when he hunts?

Family Portraits

Family Portraits

Mom signed us up for a professional photo shoot. We went to it a couple weeks ago and hopefully we can share the pictures with you all once they are available online. After the professional shoot, Mom set up the tripod in the front yard so she could try to get her own pictures of us while we were all matching. (No Wilbur because he prefers not to be that close to us and Mom preferred not to get holes in her new shirt.)

We took seven pictures, so I’m going to share all seven. You’ll see that I am looking perfect in every single picture, but the rest of my family can’t get it together.

Photo #1:
First, all of these pictures are goofy because Mom posed us with weird shadows over Dad. In this picture, Dad’s got his hand in a weird spot over my back and Kat is looking at the kitty across the street.
DSC_0072
Photo #2:
Look at me. I’m looking happy and bushy-tailed, but Kat is looking weird. She sits like a lazy bum and can’t even look at the camera.
DSC_0071
Photo #3:
Mom ruined this picture because she has her hand up after pushing the remote to make the camera take a picture.
DSC_0070
Photo #4:
Kat just can’t stop looking at the kitty. I swear, she will never be a professional model like me.
DSC_0069
Photo #5:
Again, Mom has the remote in the picture and Kat’s doing something goofy.
DSC_0068
Photo #6:
Honestly, Kat! What is she doing? She is hopeless.
DSC_0067
Photo #7:
I gave up after this picture. It’s pretty good even though Mom has her chin up in the air all weird.
DSC_0066
See what I have to deal with? My handsomeness is diluted by all the others in these pictures.

Take Us Out to the Ball Game!

Some of Dad's coworkers formed a softball team and played against other teams from around the company. Dad decided to go to one of their last games and he invited Mom, Kat and me to come too. I was very excited because I had never been to a ballgame before.

When we first got to the park, we went for a 20 minute walk. For some reason, Mom and Dad think that going for walks helps us sit still. When we first got to the bleachers, I was afraid to get on them and just stayed on the ground.
100_3230
Kat and I were both pretty tired after our walk.
100_3231
Then Dad's coworkers took to the field. Kat was ready to be a cheerleader and was paying close attention to the game so she could woo at just the right time.
100_3232
After a while, I decided that the bleachers weren't very scary and climbed up next to Dad for a better view. There's nothing more entertaining than a bunch of engineers trying to play sports.
100_3238
Eventually, Kat got bored with the game (you know how girls are) and decided that the bleachers would make for a good jungle gym.
100_3242
Mom finally got Kat to sit down at the very top of the bleachers.
100_3245
It was a pretty fun game. There were also some chickens in the bushes near the car that were very interesting. I hope we get to go to another ballgame soon.

Painting with paws

Mom decided to paint the hallway, stairs, and entryway. It sounded like a good deal to us. We like it when Mom does things to make our house nicer. She has to do stuff like that to earn her keep.

The first thing she did was put blue plastic all over the floor. Steve helped by holding down the blue plastic in the corner.
DSC_0012
Then Dad got the giant ladder out and set it up for Mom on the stairs. Wilbur helped by doing a stability check. He climbed to the top of the ladder to make sure it wouldn't fall down.
100_3246
100_3248
I helped by supervising. I find that Mom works better if I watch her.
DSC_0011
Steve and I even tag-teamed our helping.
DSC_0013
After a while, Mom moved the ladder and blocked us out of the painting zone. Steve felt very dejected that he wasn't allowed to help anymore.
DSC_0016
We don't have any pictures of the complete painting job. Mom hasn't quite finished the stairs and the trim yet because she ran out of paint. Finishing the job is on her list of things to do over the long weekend.

Unnecessary Payment

At Dr. Steve's Cure-All Clinic, we are a pro-bono practice. We like to help pups and don't require any form of payment. However, Mango insisted that he pay me for his prescription. His payment arrived this week and wow, it was great!

He sent me this cool Spiderman toy. I guess being a doctor is just like being a superhero. You can see that I couldn't wait to get my paws on Spiderman.
DSC_0039

These yummy bones were also in the box.
DSC_0041
Kat and I both found them delicious!
DSC_0047
DSC_0049
One really cool thing that Mango sent was this blanket for Nurse Kat. It says "Nurses Week 2009" and is from a hospital in Texas. It's perfect for Nurse Kat since she is also from Texas. Mom put the blanket on the couch where Kat always sleeps.
DSC_0063
Here's a close up so you can see the logo.
DSC_0065
Even Wilbur got something. I'm sure he will want to eat his Friskies out of this mug if he can get it away from Mom!
DSC_0051
Last but certainly not least, there was card in the box. Kat thought it was very sweet. Actually, we all did.
DSC_0038
Thanks Mango and family! We really appreciate the gifts!

In honor of Dakota

It's with sad hearts that we post in honor of our dear friend, Dakota, who passed away yesterday, surrounded by her mom and dad. Dakota was a sweet pup and our mom was fortunate enough to meet her in April and witness first-hand what a happy girl Dakota was and how she brought joy to her family.

To Dakota's family -- Mom, Dad, Phantom and Thunder -- we thank you for sharing Dakota with us via your blog. We enjoyed reading her stories and looking at her pictures and videos.

Huffle is the best

One of our favorite cats, Huffle Mawson, who we might like better than Wilbur, sent us a present - a box full of Happy Hearts cookies! We were so surprised yesterday when the brown truck guy dropped it off! Mom didn't let us open the box until after our walk.

Look how huge the box is!

Steve thought the cards was so sweet.

I was super excited about the giant cookie!

Then we got to the best part... sampling!

Thank you Huffle!

PS. Please remember Dakota in your thoughts after her accident and keep your paws crossed that Laska comes home.

Steve plays fetch!

I have been in hiding after Steve posted the incriminating video of me being brushed. No self-respecting Siberian wants to be brushed and so I'm pretty sure that was Wilbur in a Sibe suit in that video. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Steve likes to say that no Siberian plays fetch, even though that is one of my favorite games. Well, I found this video of Steve that proves he doesn't always listen to his own rules.

Did you see how he just ran right into the tree limbs? That's one determined Sibe!

I'm still looking for some even more embarrassing stuff to post about Steve.

More Prescriptions

I've gotten a bit behind on my prescription writing. The weather here has been really nice, so I've taken a bit of a vacation from the clinic, but I'm back now. I try to answer treatment requests in the order I receive them, but Star and Jack sent in an urgent request for their dad. In case you haven't heard, their dad really hurt his foot. He has a giant thing he has to wear on his foot to make it better (it looks like a cone for the foot to me) and his foot is very colorful, but not in a good way. You all know I mostly prescribe treatment for dogs, but I am not against helping out a human every once in a while. After all, they need all the help they can get!

For Star and Jack's dad, I am recommending that Star and Jack start growing and shedding fur at an accelerated pace. They should collect all their extra fur and use some heavy-duty duct tape to tape the fur all over their dad's foot. Obviously he needs some extra padding down their to prevent injury and I'm certain that paw fur will do the trick. Now while the paw fur will help him heal physically, I also care about the emotional well-being of my patients and have taken care of that as well. I recommend Star and Jack's dad eat one gallon of ice cream per day. Ice cream makes everyone feel better. He should take a bite, then give one bite to Star (ladies first) and then a bite to Jack and then repeat until the gallon is consumed. I know from experience that nothing makes a human happier than giving a Siberian ice cream. Feel better, Dad-a-roo!

I'm also going to address some canine treatment requests. Mya wrote in with this troubling issue:
Oh Dr Steve!! What a wonderful job woo have done!! So noble! Can woo scribe me a cure? I need to get rid of a rash, called COCO!!! Haroooooo!!!!!

Mya Boo Boo
Normally I would say that flattery won't get you anywhere, but it will at this clinic (just not as far as treats will get you.) I've decided to take a different approach to Mya's problem. I don't think she needs to be rid of CoCo, I just think she should make CoCo her sidekick. I know Mya has a love for countersurfing, so if CoCo was her sidekick, CoCo would be convieniently located near Mya at all times in case Mya needs to appear innocent of any crimes. I'm sure CoCo is good for some entertainment as well. Chasing, chewing, wrestling... all good activities for a sidekick. I hope this helps, Mya!

Finally, Benson wrote in with this problem:
we have a very serious case for you. Benson is a scaredy-dog. he is afraid of everything - humans, dogs, cats, flies (yes, flies!), food, baths, birds, and more. what would you prescribe for this poor little scardey-dog? Benson would really appreciate your help.

woofs.
What a problem! I'm a bit shocked at this as I know Benson loves to go to the dog park, but with all of his fears, I'd think he'd be afraid to set one paw outside his house! I think a slow introduction of objects to Benson would be best. I think that Benson's mom should get him a new stuffie every day that looks like something he fears. Then Benson can chew it and teach it who's boss and realize he's got nothing to be afraid of! Good luck, Benson! I'd hate for you to miss out on any fun dog park times.
Well, that's all I've got for today, but I have several other treatment requests to catch up on.
Until next time,
Dr. Steve

Swimming in the ocean

Last month we posted about our adventure to Whidbey Island (Part 1 and Part 2). Over Memorial Day weekend, we went back and visited Deception Pass State Park again. We went on a longer hike and then went swimming.

Here's a video of our swimming. We had some fun chasing rocks and trying to figure out those wave things. I also had a staring contest with a boat.

Here's a picture with the cool bridge in the background.
100_3214
Notice how we didn't really pose for the picture Mom wanted. We are such good Siberians!

Kat Hates Being Brushed

Kat says she hates it when Mom brushes her. I have video evidence that might indicate otherwise.

If Kat asks, you didn't hear about this from me.

Furry 5k

We went to the Furry 5K on Sunday. It was pretty fun. We had a hard time finding a parking spot, so Steve and I were all wound up by the time we got out of the car, as visible in this video.

The Furry 5K is in a park along Lake Washington. Apparently dogs aren't supposed to get in the lake at the park so this police officer had to tell everyone, "Your dog can get a drink but it can't set one paw into the lake." So we took our picture instead. Mom felt bad for the officer because she had to pretty much tell a constant stream of people to keep their dog out of the lake.
100_3219
There were tons of dogs and humans at the Furry 5K. Mom took this video at the starting line.

I was pretty pooped on the way home!
100_3225
I can't wait for the Furry 5K next year!

Backyard Helping

Mom and Dad has been working hard in our backyard, but not as hard as we have been working. Mom and Dad hope to have grass planted in the entire yard within the next couple weeks, so Kat and I have doubled our efforts to help.

Our yard used to have some bamboo bushes and Dad has been digging them up. You can see him in the background of this picture. Notice what a great job I'm doing at keeping dirt out of the hole where he had just removed some bamboo roots.
DSC_0004
Here's a closer look.
DSC_0005
Yard work is hard but I just know it will be worth it when Kat and I have nice, soft grass to run on while we play chase!

Portrait of Steve

Huffle posted a picture of herself on her stairs the other day. So I thought I'd post this picture of me at the top of my stairs. I'm really not supposed to go upstairs much. There are only three rooms up there: Wilbur's room, the guest bedroom and the guest bathroom. The door is always closed to the guest bedroom and usually to the bathroom and then there is a baby gate across the entrance to Wilbur's room. So when I do go upstairs, all I can do is sit on the landing.

Yum!

I talked about my Missouri grandparents being here a few weeks ago. While they were here, Mom bought some strawberries and my grandma made some short cake. Here's a picture of Mom's bowl.
DSC_0003
Looks delicious, doesn't it? Not to be left out, I got some too. Here's my bowl
DSC_0018
Notice anything missing? That's right, the shortcake! I am sure I would love shortcake. After all, I love cupcakes, as I demonstrated when I stole eight of them off the stove when Mom wasn't looking. (I'll fess up to that because Dad wasn't home, Kat was with Mom and Wilbur would have looked really fat if he had done it, so it was pretty obvious it was me.) Also, I may or may not have been involved in the frosting incident of 2007.

So I'm not sure what I should have done. Should I have complained and risked not getting anything or just politely taken my bowl without the shortcake? What do you pups think?
Steve

PS. For the record, I didn't complain and I waited patiently to eat my strawberries and cool whip.
